Mazda engines

MazdaMazda is a Japanese car manufacturer that produces Mazda cars. The company was founded in 1920 and is headquartered in Hiroshima. Mazda’s two main factories are located in Japan (in the cities of Hiroshima and Hofu), 18 additional ones are outside its borders.

The name of most units consists of two parts, which are separated by a hyphen:

  • The first part consists of two characters, which indicate the name of the series and the volume of the unit.
  • In the second part, the brief technical characteristics of this engine are encrypted. For example, the letter D is DOHC, V is VVT, E is electronic injection control.

Engine Mazda HF-VPH

The 2.0-liter Mazda HF-VPH or Skyactiv-X 2.0 engine has been produced in Japan since 2019 and is installed on the fourth generation of the Mazda 3 model and the CX-30 crossover platform. It is distinguished by a system of ignition of fuel from compression, unique for gasoline units.

Engine Mazda CY-DE

The 3.5-liter V6 CY-DE or Mazda MZI engine was assembled at the US plant from 2006 to 2007 and installed in the full-size CX-9 crossover, but only in its first year of production. This motor belongs to a huge series of Ford Cyclone Engine gasoline power units.

Engine Mazda CA-DE

The 3.7-liter V6 CA-DE or Mazda MZI engine was produced in the USA from 2007 to 2015 and was installed on the first generation CX-9 crossover, as well as the American versions of the Mazda 6. This gasoline power unit belongs to the huge series of Ford Cyclone Engine engines.

Engine Mazda B1 1.1l

The 1.1-liter 8-valve Mazda B1 engine was assembled in Japan and Korea from 1987 to 1994 and installed in the first two generations of the compact 121 model, as well as the similar Kia Pride. In addition to the carburetor modification, there was a version with an injector on the European market.

Engine Mazda FS-DE

Engine Mazda FS-ZE

Engine Mazda K8-DE

The Mazda K8-DE 1.8-liter V6 gasoline engine was assembled by the company from 1991 to 1998 and was installed only on the European and American modifications of the popular MX-3 model. A version of this engine with the K8-ZE index with 145 hp was installed on cars for the Japanese market.

The Mazda K8-ZE 1.8-liter V6 engine was produced in Japan from 1991 to 1998 and was installed in local versions of such popular models as Eunos, Efini MS-6 and Cronos. A deforced version with the K8-DE index was installed on the European and American markets.

Engine Mazda KF-DE

The 2.0-liter V6 Mazda KF-DE engine was produced at the company’s factories from 1992 to 2002 and was installed on European versions of such popular models as 323, Xedos 6 and Xedos 9. A modification for 160-170 hp was put on cars for the Japanese market with index KF-ZE.

Engine Mazda KF-ZE

The Mazda KF-ZE 2.0-liter V6 gasoline engine was produced in Japan from 1991 to 1999 and was installed on Asian versions of such popular models as Efini, Eunos, Lantis and MX-6. The derated version of this unit with the KF-DE index is known from the Xedos 9 sedan.

Engine Mazda KJ-ZEM

The 2.3-liter gasoline V6 Mazda KJ-ZEM engine was assembled in Japan from 1993 to 2002 and installed on the popular Millenia model, as well as its modifications Xedos 9 and Eunos 800. This engine stood out in its lineup for the presence of a compressor and work on the Miller cycle.

Engine Mazda KL-DE

The Mazda KL-DE 2.5-liter V6 engine was produced at the company’s factories from 1992 to 2002 and was installed on European and American modifications of the 626, MX-6 or Millenia models. This power unit is also known as the KL-03 and was found under the hood of the Ford Probe.

Engine Mazda KL-G4

The Mazda KL-G4 2.5-liter V6 gasoline engine was produced by the company from 1997 to 2002 and was installed only on the 626 model in the back of the GF in the modification for the US and Canadian markets. This motor was distinguished by a complex exhaust system with three catalysts, four lambdas.

Engine Mazda KL-ZE

The Mazda KL-ZE 2.5-liter V6 engine was produced at the Japanese plant from 1992 to 2002 and installed in local versions of such popular models as Efini, Eunos or MX-6. This motor differed from the KL-DE in an increased compression ratio and a different intake manifold.

Engine Mazda L8-DE

The 1.8-liter Mazda L8-DE gasoline engine was produced by the company from 2002 to 2018 and was installed on the European versions of the 5, 6 and MX-5 models, as well as Ford cars under the QQDB index. There was a version of this unit with an inlet phase regulator with its own index L8‑VE.

The 1.8-liter Mazda L813 engine was produced by the company from 2002 to 2012 and was installed in two generations of the popular sixth model. The modification of this power unit for the Mazda 5 minivan had its own index L823.

The 2.0-liter Mazda LFF7 gasoline engine was produced by the company from 2004 to 2011 and was installed on the first generation of the Mazda 6 model after restyling and Mazda 5. This power unit was already installed on Ford cars with its own SYDA index.

Engine Mazda L3-VE

Engine Mazda L3C1

The 2.3-liter Mazda L3C1 engine was produced at the company’s enterprise from 2002 to 2008 and was installed only on the first generation of the popular model of the sixth series. In fact, this power unit is not very different from its counterpart under the symbol L3‑VE.

Engine Mazda L5-VE

The 2.5-liter Mazda L5-VE (MZR L5-VE 2.5) gasoline engine was produced by the company from 2008 to 2015 and was installed on the most popular models of the third, fifth, sixth series, as well as the CX-7 crossover. A similar power unit was installed on the Ford Kuga under its own YTMA index.

Engine Mazda ZJ-VE

The Mazda ZJ-VE 1.3-liter gasoline engine was produced by the company from 2002 to 2015 and was installed only on the basic versions of the first Mazda 3 and two generations of the Mazda 2 or Demio. A particularly economical version of this motor operates on the Miller cycle and has the ZJ-VEM index.

Engine Mazda Z5-DE

The Mazda Z5-DE 1.5-liter gasoline engine was produced by the company from 1994 to 1998 and was installed on various models of the popular 323 family, Familia, Protege and Lantis in the BH body. There was a lean-burn version of this power unit under its own Z5-DEL index.

Engine Mazda ZL-DE

The 1.5-liter Mazda ZL-DE engine was produced by a Japanese company from 1998 to 2003 and was installed only on Asian modifications of the 323 family, better known as the Familia. The version of this motor for the European market is simply called ZL, but there are no special differences.

Engine Mazda ZL-VE

The 1.5-liter Mazda ZL-VE gasoline engine was produced in Japan from 1998 to 2003 and was installed only on the local modification of the 323 models, better known as the Familia. This motor differed from the similar ZL-DE by the presence of an S-VT phase regulator on the intake shaft.

Engine Mazda ZY-VE

The 1.5-liter Mazda ZY-VE engine was produced at a plant in Japan from 2002 to 2015 and was installed on the company’s most popular models with indexes 2 and 3, as well as Verisa. There was a modification of this motor without an inlet phase regulator called ZY-DE.

Engine Mazda MZR Z6

The 1.6-liter Mazda Z6 engine was produced at the Japanese plant of the company from 2003 to 2019 and has been installed only on the model of the third series for all the time, but at once in its three generations.

Engine Mazda ZM-DE

The Mazda ZM-DE 1.6-liter gasoline engine was produced by the company from 1998 to 2003 and was installed on the European, American and Japanese versions of the 323 BJ models. The modification of the motor for the European market is simply called ZM, it has a minimum of differences.

Engine Mazda GY-DE

The 2.5-liter Mazda GY-DE gasoline engine was produced by the concern from 1999 to 2002 and was installed only on the popular MPV minivan in the LW body before its first restyling. Structurally, this power unit has much in common with the Ford LCBD and Jaguar AJ25 engines.

Engine Mazda AJ-DE

The Mazda AJ-DE 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine was produced by the company from 2000 to 2007 and was installed on many concern models for the American market, such as 6, MPV or Tribute. In its design, this power unit is similar to the Ford REBA engine, as well as the Jaguar AJ30.

Engine Mazda AJ-VE

The Mazda AJ-VE 3.0-liter gasoline engine was produced by the company from 2007 to 2011 and was installed only in the second generation Tribute crossover for the North American market. This unit was essentially a modification of the AJ-DE engine and was distinguished by the presence of phase regulators.

Engine Mazda SkyActiv-G 1.5

The 1.5-liter Mazda P5-VPS or SkyActiv-G 1.5 gasoline engine has been produced at the plant in Japan since 2013 and is installed on the company’s most compact models under the indexes 2 or Demio and 3 or Axela. There is a modification of this motor with the P5-VP index for the rear-wheel drive model MX-5.

Engine Mazda SkyActiv-G 2.0

The 2.0-liter Mazda PE-VPS or SkyActiv-G 2.0 engine has been produced at the factories of the Japanese company since 2012 and is installed on most of its most popular models with indexes 3, 6, CX-3, CX-30 and CX-5. On the 2018 MX-5 roadster, a version of this unit boosted to 184 hp debuted.

Engine Mazda SkyActiv-G 2.5

The 2.5-liter Mazda PY-VPS or SkyActiv-G 2.5 gasoline engine has been assembled by a Japanese company since 2013 and is installed on such popular models as 6, CX-5 and CX-8. In some markets, motor modifications are offered under other indices: PY-RPS and PY-VPR.

Engine Mazda 13B-MSP

The 1.3-liter Mazda 13B-MSP rotary engine or Renesis 1.3 was assembled from 2003 to 2012 and installed on all modifications of the popular RX-8 sports coupe. This power unit exists in two different generations with slight differences.

Engine Mazda RF 2.0l

The Mazda RF 2.0-liter pre-chamber diesel engine was produced from 1983 to 2003 in a huge number of modifications: both atmospheric RF-N and turbocharged RF-T. There was also an updated version of the RF1G for the 323 models and a compressor RF-CX for the 626.

Engine Mazda RF-T DI

The 2.0-liter diesel engine Mazda RF-T DI or 2.0 DiTD was produced from 1998 to 2004 and was installed on the most popular models of the company of its time, such as 323, 626 or Premacy. In total, there were three different modifications of this power unit: RF2A, RF3F and RF4F.

Engine Mazda RF5C

The Mazda RF5C 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine was assembled by the company from 2002 to 2005 and was installed only on European versions of the 6 series models and the popular MPV minivan. After a slight modernization in 2005, this power unit received a new RF7J index.

Engine Mazda RF7J

The 2.0-liter Mazda RF7J diesel engine was produced by the company from 2005 to 2010 and was installed on the European versions of the popular models of the third, fifth or sixth series. This power unit was essentially a modernized version of the well-known RF5C diesel engine.

Engine Mazda R2 2.2l

The 2.2-liter prechamber diesel engine Mazda R2 was produced from 1983 to 2007 and was installed on a large number of commercial vehicles under the brands Mazda, Kia, Ford. After being equipped with the Common Rail system, this power unit received a new R2AA index.

Engine Mazda R2AA

The 2.2-liter Mazda R2AA diesel engine was produced by the company from 2008 to 2013 and was installed on such popular models as the third and sixth series, as well as the CX-7 crossover. There was a version of this diesel engine with power reduced to 125 hp under the R2BF index.

Engine Mazda Y4 1.4 CiTD

The 1.4-liter Mazda Y4 or 1.4 CiTD diesel engine was produced from 2003 to 2009 and was installed on the first and second generations of the popular compact model under the index 2. This unit exists in one version of the Y404 and is a variation of the Peugeot 1.4 HDi engine.

Engine Mazda Y6 1.6 CiTD

The 1.6-liter Mazda Y6 or 1.6 CiTD engine was produced from 2004 to 2015 in two versions: the first generation units with the Y406, Y601, Y642 and Y646 indices were equipped with a 16-valve cylinder head, and the second generation engines with the Y650, Y655, Y661 and Y6Y1 indices equipped with an 8-valve cylinder head.

Engine Mazda WL-T

The Mazda WL-T 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine was built in Japan from 1995 to 2006 and fitted to rear and all-wheel drive models such as the MPV, Bongo Friendee and Proceed Marvie. Modifications of this power unit with an electronically controlled high pressure fuel pump are often referred to as WL‑TE.

Engine Mazda SH-VPTS

The Mazda SH-VPTS or Skyactiv-D 2.2-liter diesel engine has been assembled at the plant in Japan since 2013 and is installed on the most popular CX-5 and CX-8 crossovers in the production range. A similar diesel engine is installed on passenger models of the Japanese company, but with the SH-VPTR index.

Engine Mazda S8-DPTS

The 1.8-liter Mazda S8-DPTS or Skyactiv-D 1.8 diesel engine was first introduced only in 2018 and is installed only on the latest generation of the Mazda 3 model, as well as the CX-3 and CX-30 crossovers. There is a diesel version under the S8-DPTR index, equipped with the i-ELOOP recovery system.
