Hyundai engines

HyundaiHyundai is a South Korean car manufacturer. The largest automaker in the country and the fourth largest in the world. The headquarters are located in Seoul. The company was founded in 1967 by Chung Joo-yeon. In 1998, Hyundai acquired the Korean car maker Kia Motors.

The engine index of the Korean concern consists of four characters:

  • The first letter indicates the type of fuel, so G is gasoline, D is diesel and L is hybrid.
  • The second digit indicates the number of cylinders, respectively 3, 4, 6 or 8.
  • The third letter gives the name of the family, and the fourth – the name within the series.

The catalog contains engines for the following Hyundai models: Coupe | Elantra | Excel | Grandeur | i20 | i30 | ix35 | Santa Fe | Solaris | Sonata | Stellar | Trajet | Tucson.

Engine Hyundai G4FU

The Hyundai G4FU or Smartstream MHEV 1.6-liter turbo engine has been produced since 2020 and is installed only on the popular Tucson crossover in Europe and its similar Sportage. The motor is a mild hybrid version of the G4FP unit with a 48-volt starter-alternator.

Engine Hyundai J3

The 2.9-liter diesel engine Hyundai J3 or 2.9 CRDi was produced from 1998 to 2016 and installed both on commercial vehicles and on the Carnival minivan and Terracan SUV. There were two versions of this engine: with direct fuel injection and Common Rail system.

Engine Hyundai G4FL

The 1.5-liter Hyundai G4FL or Smartstream G 1.5 MPi engine has been in production since 2018 and is installed on models for the Indian and Chinese market, such as Kia Carens, Seltos or Sonet.

Engine Hyundai G4FS

The 1.5-liter Hyundai G4FS or Smartstream G 1.5 T-GDI engine has been produced since 2019 and is installed on Chinese versions of such popular models as Sonata, Tucson and Sportage. This power unit is also found on concern cars for a number of other Asian countries.

Engine Hyundai G3LD

The 1.0-liter Hyundai G3LD or Smartstream G 1.0 MPI engine has been assembled only since 2020 and is installed only on the most compact models of the Korean concern such as i10 and Picanto. They offer two versions of this engine: with distributed injection MPI, combined DPI.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G3LE

The 1.0-liter Hyundai G3LE engine has been produced by the Korean concern only since 2020 and is installed on such popular models as i10, i20, Bayon, as well as Kia Rio, Ceed and Stonic. This unit belongs to the Smartstream line and is often combined with the iMT manual transmission.

Engine Hyundai G3LF

The 1.0-liter Hyundai G3LF or Smartstream G 1.0 T-GDI engine has been produced since 2020 and is installed on such popular concern models as Kona, Bayon, as well as Kia Stonic, Ceed and Rio. This motor is usually produced as a Mild Hybrid 48V and is combined with an iMT manual transmission.

Engine Hyundai G4LF

The 1.2-liter Hyundai G4LF or Smartstream G 1.2 MPI engine has been produced only since 2020 and is installed on such models of the Korean concern as i10, i20, Bayon, as well as Kia Picanto and Stonic. There are two versions of this engine: with distributed injection MPI, combined DPI.

Engine Hyundai G4LG

The 1.5-liter Hyundai G4LG or Smartstream G 1.5 DPi engine has been produced since 2020 at a plant in Zilina, Slovakia, and so far is installed only on the third generation of the i30 hatchback. This engine is distinguished by combined fuel injection, that is, it has two rows of nozzles.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6DT

The 3.5-liter Hyundai-Kia G6DT or Smartstream G 3.5 GDi engine has been produced since 2021 and is currently installed only on the top versions of the popular Kia K8 sedan in the Korean market. The motor is distinguished by the presence of combined injection, that is, both direct and distributed.

Engine Hyundai G6DV

The 3.5-liter Hyundai G6DV or Smartstream G3.5T e-S/C engine has been produced since 2022 and is currently only installed on long-wheelbase versions of second-generation Genesis G90 sedans. This engine, in addition to twin turbocharging, is also equipped with an electric compressor.

Engine Hyundai G4NN

The 2.0-liter Hyundai G4NN or Smartstream G 2.0 T-GDI engine has been produced since 2019 and is installed on Chinese versions of such models as Custo, Sonata, as well as Kia K5 and Carnival. This turbo engine is found on some concern cars for other Asian countries.

Engine Hyundai G4EA

The 1.3-liter carbureted Hyundai G4EA engine was produced in Korea from 1994 to 1999 and was installed only on the first generation of Accent models, and then only in some markets.

Engine Hyundai G4EH

The 1.3-liter 12-valve Hyundai G4EH engine was produced in Korea from 1994 to 2005 and was installed on the first two generations of the Accent model and the European versions of the Getz before restyling.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4EE

The company produced the 1.4-liter 16-valve Hyundai G4EE engine from 2005 to 2012 and installed it on such popular models as the Getz, Accent or similar Kia Rio.

Engine Hyundai G4EB

The 1.5-liter 12-valve Hyundai G4EB engine was produced by the company from 1999 to 2012 and all this time was put on the very popular second-generation Hyundai Accent. In the European market, this unit was installed on the local version of Accent only before restyling.

Engine Hyundai G4EC

The company produced the 1.5-liter 16-valve Hyundai G4EC engine from 1999 to 2012 and installed it on the second generation Hyundai Accent and its licensed counterparts. In most other countries, this engine was installed on local versions of the Accent only before restyling.

Engine Hyundai G4ER

The 1.5-liter 16-valve Hyundai G4ER engine was produced by the company from 1995 to 2000 and was installed on the first generation of the Accent model and its variants such as Excel or Verna. Such a power unit is known in many sources under a completely different G4FK index.

Engine Hyundai G4EK

The 1.5-liter 12-valve Hyundai G4EK engine was produced by the company from 1991 to 2000 and was installed on such popular models of the Korean concern as Accent, Lantra and Scoupe. In addition to the atmospheric modification of this engine, there was a rare turbocharged version.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4ED

The 1.6-liter 16-valve Hyundai G4ED engine was produced in Korea from 2000 to 2012 and was installed on the group’s most popular models, such as Accent, Elantra, Matrix and Getz. There were two versions of this unit: with and without a CVVT type phase regulator at the inlet.

Engine Hyundai G4GR

The company produced the 1.6-liter 16-valve Hyundai G4GR engine from 1995 to 2001 and installed it on two models of the Korean concern: the Lantra J2 or the Coupe created on its basis. In addition to the standard 114 hp modification, a 90 hp version was offered in some markets.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4GB

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4GC

The 2.0-liter Hyundai G4GC engine was assembled at the plant in Ulsan from 2000 to 2011 and was installed on such popular models of the company as the Sonata, Tucson, Kia Seed, Cerato and Soul. This unit belongs to the updated Beta II line and has an analogue for L4GC gas fuel.

Engine Hyundai G4GF

The 2.0-liter gasoline engine Hyundai G4GF was assembled in South Korea from 1996 to 2002 and installed on the restyled Lantra J2, as well as the Coupe model and the American version of the Tiburon. Such a power unit is very actively used for swapping to other cars of the concern.

Engine Hyundai G6BP

The Hyundai G6BP 2.0-liter V6 engine was produced at a factory in Korea from 1998 to 2005 and was installed only in the base versions of the Grandeur XG sedan and then only in some markets. During the transition to Euro 3 environmental standards, this power unit was derated from 148 to 137 hp.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6BV

The 2.5-liter V6 Hyundai-Kia G6BV engine was produced in South Korea from 1998 to 2005 and was installed on advanced versions of the popular Sonata, Grandeur or Magentis sedans. In some sources, this power unit appears under a slightly different G6BW index.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6BA

The 2.7-liter V6 Hyundai G6BA engine was assembled at an enterprise in Korea from 1999 to 2012 and was installed on top versions of such popular models as Sonata, Magentis, Santa Fe, Tucson. There was a gas modification of this power unit under its own index L6BA.

Engine Hyundai G3HA

The 0.8-liter 3-cylinder Hyundai G3HA engine was assembled by the company from 2011 to 2019 and was installed only on the compact Eon model, which was sold in a number of Asian countries. This motor is included in the especially economical iRDE 2 series and exists in a gas modification.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4HA

The 0.8-liter 12-valve Hyundai G4HA engine was produced by the company from 1997 to 2003 and was installed on such models for the Asian market as Atos, Atos Prime, Amica and Kia Visto. There is an atmospheric and supercharged version of such an engine, as well as a gas version of the L4HA.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4HC

The 1.0-liter Hyundai G4HC gasoline engine was produced by the concern from 1997 to 2003 and was installed on compact Atos and Atos Prime models, as well as their clones Amica and Kia Visto. There were two versions of this engine: with a conventional distributor and a non-contact ignition system.

Engine Hyundai G4HD

The 1.1-liter 12-valve Hyundai G4HD engine was produced by the concern from 2002 to 2014 and was installed only on Atos Prime and basic modifications of the Getz hatchback before restyling. There were two versions of the unit, different in power, and the older one at 46 kW was usually called the G4HD-46.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4HG

The 1.1-liter gasoline engine Hyundai G4HG was produced by the company from 2004 to 2013 and was installed on such well-known models of the Korean concern as i10, Atos, Getz, Kia Picanto. In 2010, the iRDE version of the engine for Euro 4 environmental standards was replaced by the iRDE 2 version for Euro 5.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4FA

The 1.4-liter Hyundai G4FA engine has been produced at the company’s Chinese plant since 2006 and is primarily known as the base power unit of such models as Ceed, i20, i30 and Accent.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4FC

The 1.6-liter Hyundai G4FC engine has been assembled at the concern’s plant in China since 2006 and is installed on many of the company’s mid-size models, such as the Ceed, i20, i30 and Soul.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4FD

Hyundai’s 1.6-liter G4FD or 1.6 GDI engine was first introduced back in 2009 and is installed in a number of popular Hyundai models such as the Tucson, Veloster and Soul. This motor belongs to the Gamma II line and is distinguished by a direct fuel injection system.

The 1.6-liter Hyundai G4FG engine has been produced at the concern’s Chinese plant since 2010 and is installed on many popular models, such as Elantra, Creta, Rio or Solaris. This unit belongs to the Gamma II line and in fact it is an updated version of the G4FC engine.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4FJ

The Hyundai G4FJ 1.6-liter turbo engine or 1.6 T-GDI has been produced in Korea since 2011 and is installed on such popular models as Sportage, Tucson, Ceed, Seltos, Kona, Veloster and Soul. This power unit is distinguished by the presence of a direct fuel injection system and turbocharging.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4FM

The 1.6-liter Hyundai G4FM or Elantra 1.6 Smartstream engine has been assembled since 2018 and is installed on such popular models as Cerato, Venue and Elantra. In addition to the MPi port injection version, there is also a DPi dual injection version.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4FP

The Hyundai G4FP 1.6-liter turbo engine or Smartstream 1.6 T-GDI has been assembled since 2019 and is installed on popular models such as the Sonata, Elantra and K5. This turbo engine is distinguished by the presence of a new CVVD variable valve timing system.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4FT

The 1.6-liter Hyundai G4FT or Smartstream 1.6 T-GDI Hybrid engine has been produced since 2020 and is installed on hybrid versions of such well-known models as Tucson, Sorento, Santa Fe. This power unit is widely used in Europe.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G3LA

The 1.0-liter 3-cylinder Hyundai G3LA engine has been produced in South Korea since 2011 and is installed only on the group’s most compact models, such as the i10, Eon and Kia Picanto. This motor has a gas version with the L3LA index and a Biofuel modification under the B3LA index.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G3LC

The Hyundai G3LC 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbo engine or 1.0 T-GDi has been assembled since 2015 and is installed on many compact models of the Korean concern such as i10, i20, i30, Kona and Kia Ceed. Based on this unit, Smartstream G1.0T turbo engines were created under the G3LE and G3LF indices.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4LA

The 1.2-liter 4-cylinder Hyundai G4LA engine has been produced in India and Korea since 2008 and is installed in almost all compact models of the concern, such as the i10, i20 and Kia Picanto. There are two generations of this motor, the second is equipped with Dual CVVT type phase regulators.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4LC

The 1.4-liter 16-valve Hyundai G4LC engine was introduced by the company in 2014 and is known in many markets for such popular models as the Rio 4 and Solaris 2. In Europe, this power unit was found on the i20, i30, Ceed, Stonic and the fifth generation Accent.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4LD

The company introduced the 1.4-liter turbo engine Hyundai G4LD or 1.4 T-GDI in 2016. Since 2019, this motor has been included in the new Smartstream line, where it is known under the G1.4T index.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4LH

The Hyundai G4LH 1.5-liter turbo engine or Smartstream G 1.5 T-GDi has been assembled since 2020 and is installed on such popular Korean company models as the i30, as well as Kia Ceed and Xceed. Especially for some markets, the power of this power unit has been reduced from 160 hp to 150 hp.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4LE

The 1.6-liter 16-valve Hyundai G4LE engine has been produced in South Korea since 2016 and is installed on hybrid versions of such popular models as Ioniq, Niro and Kona. There are two versions: Hybrid with 1.56 KWh battery and Plug-in Hybrid with 8.9 or 12.9 KWh battery.

Engine Hyundai G6DE

The 3.0-liter Hyundai G6DE or Grandeur 3.0 MPi engine has been produced by the company since 2012 and is installed on the fifth and sixth generation Hyundai Grandeur front-wheel drive sedans. The L6DB 3.0 LPi gas engine known in Korea was created on the basis of this power unit.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6DG

The 3.0-liter Hyundai G6DG or Grand Santa Fe 3.0 GDi engine was assembled from 2011 to 2019 and installed on both the front-wheel drive Cadenza and Grandeur sedan and the rear-wheel drive Genesis. In many markets, such a unit is known for a restyled version of the Grand Santa Fe crossover.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6DL

The company assembled the 3.0-liter Hyundai-Kia G6DL or 3.0 GDi engine from 2016 to 2021 and installed it only on the Cadenza front-wheel drive sedan, as well as the similar Grandeur. This power unit was essentially a slightly updated version of the engine under the G6DG index.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6DH

The 3.5-liter V6 Hyundai G6DC engine has been produced at factories in Korea and the USA since 2009 and during this time it has been installed on many front- and all-wheel drive models of the Korean company, such as the Sorento and Santa Fe crossovers, the Cadenza and Grandeur sedans, and the Carnival minivan.

Engine Hyundai-Genesis G6DS

The 3.5-liter turbo engine Hyundai-Genesis G6DS or Smartstream G 3.5 T-GDi has been produced since 2020 and put on rear-wheel drive models of the concern, primarily under the Genesis brand. This engine is distinguished by the presence of a combined fuel injection system GDi + MPi.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6DU

The 3.5-liter V6 engine Hyundai G6DU or Smartstream G 3.5 MPi has been produced since 2020 and is installed on such popular concern models as Santa Fe, Staria, Sorento and Carnival. In Korea, the gas version of this engine called Smartstream L 3.5 LPi is very popular.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6DA

The 3.8-liter gasoline V6 engine Hyundai G6DA was produced in America from 2004 to 2016 and was installed on both front-wheel drive Grandeur and rear-wheel drive ix55 models. Such a power unit existed in two generations with quite significant differences.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6DJ

The 3.8-liter gasoline engine Hyundai G6DJ or Genesis 3.8 GDi has been produced since 2011 and is installed on many rear-wheel drive models of the company, especially under the Genesis brand. This motor is also found under the hood of executive class sedans such as Equus and Quoris.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6DK

The 3.8-liter Hyundai G6DK or Genesis Coupe 3.8 MPi engine was assembled from 2008 to 2015 and installed in rear-wheel drive models such as the Genesis or the coupe created based on it. This power unit is also found under the hood of Equus and Quoris executive sedans.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6DN

The 3.8-liter gasoline engine Hyundai-Kia G6DN or 3.8 GDi has been produced since 2018 and is currently only installed on a couple of similar Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride crossovers. The unit operates on an economical Atkinson cycle and therefore has a high compression ratio.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6EA

The Hyundai G6EA 2.7-liter V6 petrol engine was produced in Korea from 2005 to 2013 and was installed on a number of popular models such as Magentis, Opirus, Grandeur and Santa Fe. There was a gas modification of this power unit under its own index L6EA.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4NB

The 1.8-liter Hyundai G4NB engine was produced at the Ulsan plant from 2010 to 2016 and was installed only on a few popular models, such as the Elantra and Cerato Forte. In 2013, the production of the motor was transferred to China, where it is put on the local Mistra model.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4NA

The 2.0-liter Hyundai G4NA engine was first introduced by the company in 2010 and is installed on almost all significant models of the concern, such as Elantra, Optima and Sonata. There is a gas version of this engine without petrol injectors under its L4NA index.
