Hyundai engines

HyundaiHyundai is a South Korean car manufacturer. The largest automaker in the country and the fourth largest in the world. The headquarters are located in Seoul. The company was founded in 1967 by Chung Joo-yeon. In 1998, Hyundai acquired the Korean car maker Kia Motors.

The engine index of the Korean concern consists of four characters:

  • The first letter indicates the type of fuel, so G is gasoline, D is diesel and L is hybrid.
  • The second digit indicates the number of cylinders, respectively 3, 4, 6 or 8.
  • The third letter gives the name of the family, and the fourth – the name within the series.

The catalog contains engines for the following Hyundai models: Coupe | Elantra | Excel | Grandeur | i20 | i30 | ix35 | Santa Fe | Solaris | Sonata | Stellar | Trajet | Tucson.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4NC

The 2.0-liter Hyundai G4NC engine debuted on the Hyundai i40 2.0 GDi in 2011 and has been widely adopted in the European and American automotive markets. This power unit is distinguished by the presence of a proprietary direct fuel injection system.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4ND

Hyundai’s 2.0-liter G4ND engine added to the Nu powertrain family in 2011 and gained ground with the third and fourth generation Optima. The highlight of the motor is the CVVL valve lift system.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4NE

The company assembled the 2.0-liter Hyundai G4NE or 2.0 MPi Hybrid engine from 2012 to 2015 and installed it on the hybrid versions of the Sonata 6 and the similar Optima 3 for the Asian market. In the US market, such hybrids were equipped with a 2.4-liter G4KK unit of the Theta II series.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4NG

The 2.0-liter Hyundai G4NG or Sonata 2.0 GDi Hybrid engine was produced from 2015 to 2020 and was installed on the hybrid versions of the 7th generation Sonata and the similar 4th generation Optima.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4NH

The 2.0-liter Hyundai G4NH engine has been assembled at the Korean plant of the concern since 2016 and is better known for Kia Seltos, it is also installed in many markets on Elantra, Kona, Tucson and Soul. This unit belongs to the line of especially economical motors and operates on the Atkinson cycle.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4NL

The 2.0-liter Hyundai G4NL or Smartstream G 2.0 MPi engine has been built only since 2019 and is installed on the latest versions of such popular models as Tucson, Sportage and Elantra. Due to the shortage of G4NA engines, this power unit was installed on the Creta 2 for some time.

Engine Hyundai G8AA

The 4.5-liter 32-valve Hyundai G8AA engine was assembled by the company from 1999 to 2003 and was installed on the first generation of the Equus model and the Centennial limousine created on its basis. Such a power unit is essentially a variation of the well-known Mitsubishi 8A80 V8 engine.

Engine Hyundai G8AB

The company produced the 4.5-liter gasoline V8 engine Hyundai G8AB from 2003 to 2008 and put it on the restyled Equus of the first generation or a Centennial limousine similar to it. This motor was only a modification of the Mitsubishi 8A80 with distributed fuel injection.

Engine Hyundai G4DG

The 1.3-liter Hyundai G4DG engine was produced from 1985 to 1995 under license from Mitsubishi and was essentially a complete copy of their popular 8-valve power unit under the 4G13 index. In addition to the injection version, there is often a modification of the G4AG equipped with a carburetor.

Engine Hyundai G4DJ

The 1.5-liter Hyundai G4DJ engine was produced from 1985 to 1995 under license from Mitsubishi and was essentially a copy of the 8-valve version of the popular 4G15 power unit. In addition to the version with an injector, a carburetor modification with the G4AJ index is often found.

Engine Hyundai G6AV

The Hyundai G6AV 2.5-liter V6 gasoline engine was produced by the company from 1995 to 2005 and was installed on the Grandeur and Dynasty, as well as Marcia, a version of the Sonata for the local market. This power unit is essentially a clone of the 24-valve version of the Mitsubishi 6G73 engine.

Engine Hyundai G6AT

The 3.0-liter gasoline V6 engine Hyundai G6AT was produced by the company from 1990 to 2003 and was installed on such popular concern models as the Sonata sedan and Galloper SUVs. This power unit in its design was a clone of the famous Mitsubishi 6G72 engine.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6CT

The Hyundai G6CT 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine was produced by the company from 1990 to 2006 and installed on such models as the Grandeur, Dynasty, Starex and Kia Opirus of the first years of production. In fact, this power unit is a clone of the 24-valve version of the Mitsubishi 6G72 engine.

Engine Hyundai G6AU

The 3.5-liter gasoline V6 engine Hyundai G6AU was produced only from 1994 to 1999 and was installed on top modifications of the most expensive Grandeur and Dynasty models. This power unit is essentially a clone of the 24-valve version of the Mitsubishi 6G74 engine.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G6CU

The 3.5-liter V6 Hyundai Kia G6CU engine was produced in South Korea from 1999 to 2007 and was installed on such popular concern models as the Terracan, Santa Fe and Kia Sorento. Such a power unit is inherently only a clone of the well-known Mitsubishi 6G74 engine.

Engine Hyundai G4CR

The 1.6-liter Hyundai G4CR engine was produced from 1990 to 1995 under license, as it was essentially a copy of the Mitsubishi 4G61 engine, and it was installed on the first generation of the Lantra model. Unlike other power units of this series, this one never had balance shafts.

Engine Hyundai G4CN

The 1.8-liter Hyundai G4CN engine was assembled from 1992 to 1998 under license in South Korea, because by design it was a complete copy of the Mitsubishi power unit with the 4G67 index. This DOHC engine is best known for its top-of-the-line Lantra in many markets.

Engine Hyundai G4CM

The 1.8-liter Hyundai G4CM engine was produced from 1988 to 1998 under license from Mitsubishi, because structurally it was a copy of the popular Japanese company engine with the 4G62 index. This SOHC engine is primarily known as the base powertrain of the Sonata Y2 and Y3 models.

The 1.8-liter Hyundai G4JN engine was assembled from 1998 to 2005 in South Korea under license, because structurally it was a complete copy of the Mitsubishi power unit with the 4G67 index. This Sirius II series DOHC motor was installed for some time on local versions of the Sonata and Magentis.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4JP

The 2.0-liter Hyundai G4JP engine was produced from 1998 to 2011 at a plant in South Korea under license, because structurally it was only an analogue of the Mitsubishi 4G63 power unit.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4JS

The 2.4-liter Hyundai G4JS engine was assembled at a factory in South Korea from 1998 to 2007 under license from Mitsubishi, as it was only a modification of the 16-valve version of the 4G64 engine. This motor of the Sirius II series is known for the Sorento SUV, as well as the Santa Fe.

Engine Hyundai G4CS

The 2.4-liter Hyundai G4CS engine was produced from 1986 to 2007 under license from Mitsubishi and was essentially a copy of the 8-valve version of the Japanese power unit under the 4G64 index. Basically, the motor was installed on the Starex minibus, but it is also found on passenger models.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G8BA

The 4.6-liter gasoline V8 engine Hyundai G8BA was assembled by the company from 2008 to 2013 and was installed only on the concern’s expensive models: Genesis executive class sedans and Equus. This power unit was also installed on the American version of the Kia Mohave SUV.

Engine Hyundai G8BB

The 5.0-liter V8 Hyundai G8BB engine was produced by a Korean company from 2009 to 2011 and was installed only on the second-generation Ecus sedan, including an extended version of the Limousine. Such a power unit is quite rare.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G8BE

The 5.0-liter V8 Hyundai G8BE or 5.0 GDi engine has been produced in South Korea since 2011 and is installed on top models of the concern, including cars from the premium Genesis brand. There are three generations of this engine, they are easy to distinguish by compression ratio: 11.5, 11.8 and 12.0.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4KA

The 2.0-liter Hyundai G4KA gasoline engine was produced from 2005 to 2013 and was installed on a number of well-known models of the Korean concern, such as Sonata, Magentis and Carens. There was a gas modification of this motor for taxi companies under its own index L4KA.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4KD

The 2.0-liter Hyundai G4KD engine was produced in the USA and South Korea from 2008 to 2014 and was installed on many of the company’s popular models until it gave way to the similar G4NA. Now this motor is assembled at the Hyundai Wia plant in Shandong province for the local market.

Engine Hyundai G4KF

The 2.0-liter Hyundai G4KF or Genesis Coupe 2.0 Turbo engine was produced by the concern from 2008 to 2016 and was installed only on the coupe version of the first generation Genesis model. There were two modifications of this turbo engine that differed significantly in power.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4KH

The Hyundai-Kia G4KH 2.0-liter turbo engine or 2.0 Turbo GDi has been produced since 2010 and is installed on charged versions of such models as Sonata, Optima, Sorento and Sportage. There is a version of this unit for a longitudinal arrangement with its index G4KL.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4KL

The Hyundai-Kia G4KL 2.0-liter turbo engine or 2.0 T-GDi has only been produced since 2017 and is installed on such popular models as the Kia Stinger and the similar Genesis G70. This unit is essentially a modification of the G4KH turbo engine for rear-wheel drive cars.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4KC

The 2.4-liter Hyundai G4KC gasoline engine was produced by the company from 2004 to 2010 and was installed on the Sonata and Magentis sedans, as well as the American version of the Carens compact van. Such a unit differs from its 2.0-liter counterpart in the presence of a block of balancing shafts.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4KE

The 2.4-liter Hyundai G4KE engine was produced in South Korea and the United States from 2008 to 2019 and was installed on many of the company’s large models, such as the Sonata, Sorento and Santa Fe. This powertrain is still assembled at Hyundai’s Chinese plant for the local market.

Engine Hyundai G4KG

The 2.4-liter Hyundai G4KG or Grand Starex 2.4 gasoline engine has been produced since 2007 and is installed on a wide range of commercial vehicles, including Starex minibuses. There is a gas version of this unit with a capacity of 159 hp under the index L4KB or 2.4 LPi.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4KJ

The 2.4-liter Hyundai-Kia G4KJ or 2.4 GDi petrol engine has been produced since 2009 and is installed on such popular models as Optima, Sonata, Santa Fe, Sorento and Sportage. This unit is distinguished by the presence of a GDi direct injection system and a block of balancing shafts.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4KK

The 2.4-liter Hyundai G4KK engine or 2.4 MPi Hybrid was produced from 2011 to 2017 and was installed only on hybrid modifications of the American versions of the Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima. Hybrids for the Asian market were equipped with a 2.0-liter Nu series unit under the G4NE index.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4KM

The Hyundai G4KM SmartStream 2.5 MPI 2.5-liter gasoline engine has been assembled since 2019 and is installed on the eighth generation Sonata and the fourth generation Kia Sorento crossover. The unit belongs to the new Theta III family and is equipped with multiport fuel injection.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4KN

The 2.5-liter Hyundai G4KN SmartStream 2.5 GDI engine has been assembled by the concern since 2019 and is installed on the Kia K5 and on the Hyundai Sonata and Grandeur models. This engine is equipped with two rows of nozzles for direct and distributed fuel injection.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4KP

The 2.5-liter Hyundai-Kia G4KP or Smartstream G 2.5 T-GDi engine has been assembled since 2020 and is installed on the Sorento and Santa Fe crossovers, as well as charged versions of the Sonata N-Line and K5 GT. This turbo engine is distinguished by the presence of a combined fuel injection system GDi + MPi.

Engine Hyundai-Kia G4KR

The 2.5-liter Hyundai G4KR or Smartstream 2.5 FR T-GDi engine has been produced since 2020 and is installed on rear-wheel drive models of the company like Kia Stinger and Genesis crossovers. This motor differs from analogues in the presence of a combined injection system GDi + MPi.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D4CB

The 2.5-liter Hyundai D4CB or 2.5 CRDi diesel engine has been assembled in Korea since 2001 and has undergone three major upgrades during this time: for EURO 3, 4, 5, respectively. They put it on the minibuses of the H-1 series, and it is also known for the first generation of Kia Sorento.

Engine Hyundai D3EA

The 1.5-liter diesel engine Hyundai D3EA or 1.5 CRDI was produced from 2001 to 2005 and was installed on such compact models as the Matrix, Getz and Second Generation Accent. This power unit is essentially a 3-cylinder modification of the D4EA engine.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D4EA

The 2.0-liter diesel engine Hyundai D4EA or Santa Fe Classic 2.0 CRDi was produced from 2001 to 2012 and was installed on almost all mid-size models of the manufacturer of that time. This motor was developed by VM Motori and is known as the Z20S on GM Korea models.

Engine Hyundai D4EB

The 2.2-liter diesel engine Hyundai D4EB or 2.2 CRDi was produced from 2005 to 2010 and was installed only on the second generation of the Santa Fe model and the fourth generation of the Grandeur. From 2002 to 2004, a similar unit was installed in small batches on the Hyundai Sonata EF sedan.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D4HA

The 2.0-liter Hyundai D4HA 2.0 CRDi diesel engine has been produced in Korea since 2009 and is installed on many popular crossovers such as Sportage, Tucson or Santa Fe. There are two different power modifications of this power unit for 136 or 185 hp.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D4HD

The 2.0-liter Hyundai D4HD or Smartstream D 2.0 TCi engine has been produced since 2020 and is installed on the popular Tucson crossovers in the NX4 body, as well as the Sportage in the NQ5 body. This is a new generation of concern diesel units with an aluminum block and a timing belt.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D4HB

The 2.2-liter diesel engine Hyundai D4HB or 2.2 CRDi has been assembled in Korea since 2009 and installed on many popular models of the concern such as Sorento, Santa Fe or Carnival.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D4HC

The 2.2-liter Hyundai-Kia D4HC or 2.2 CRDi diesel engine has been produced since 2017 and is installed in a range of rear-wheel drive models such as the Kia Stinger or Genesis sedans. This motor is a modification of the D4HB for cars with a longitudinal engine.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D4HE

The 2.2-liter Hyundai-Kia D4HE or Smartstream D 2.2 CRDi engine has been produced since 2020 and is installed on the popular Sorento, Santa Fe crossovers, as well as the Carnival minivan. This is a new generation of concern diesel units with an aluminum block and a timing belt.

Engine Hyundai D4HF

The 2.2-liter Hyundai D4HF or Genesis 2.2 CRDi engine has been produced by the company since 2020 and is currently only installed on two Genesis models: the GV70 crossover and the G80 executive sedan. This diesel unit is a modification of the D4HE engine for rear-wheel drive cars.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D6EA

The 3.0-liter diesel engine Hyundai D6EA or 3.0 CRDi was produced from 2006 to 2011 and installed on the company’s two largest models: the Mohave SUV and the ix55 crossover. Diesel is considered to be the concern’s own development and exists in the Euro 3 or Euro 4 version.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D6EB

The 3.0-liter Hyundai-Kia D6EB or 3.0 CRDi diesel engine has been produced since 2011 and is installed in the Mohave SUV. Also for several years it was installed on the ix55 crossover. Diesel is distinguished from its predecessors by a new fuel system with support for Euro 5 and Euro 6.

Engine Hyundai D6JA

The 3.0-liter Hyundai D6JA or Genesis 3.0 CRDi engine has been produced by the concern since 2020 and is currently installed on the only Genesis model: the GV80 executive crossover. This engine is the first diesel R6 from a Korean company.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D3FA

The 1.1-liter diesel engine Hyundai D3FA or 1.1 CRDi was produced from 2005 to 2019 and was installed on many compact models of the Korean concern, such as i10, i20, Rio and Picanto. There were two generations of this three-cylinder diesel engine for Euro 4 and Euro 5.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D4FC

The 1.4-liter Hyundai D4FC or 1.4 CRDi diesel engine was produced from 2010 to 2018 at a plant in Žilina, Slovakia and installed on models such as i20, i30, Rio, Ceed and Venga. There were two generations of such a unit: for Euro 5 environmental standards and updated for Euro 6.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D4FA

The 1.5-liter diesel engine Hyundai D4FA or 1.5 CRDi was produced from 2005 to 2011 and was installed on such popular models of the company as Accent, Rio, Matrix, Getz or Cerato. In addition to the standard version of such a unit, there were modifications of reduced power.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D4FB

The 1.6-liter diesel engine Hyundai D4FB or 1.6 CRDi was produced from 2005 to 2020 at a plant in Slovakia and was installed on such popular models as Ceed, Soul, Elantra, Venga and i30. Modifications of this motor of the first and second generation were produced with a number of differences.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D4FE

The 1.6-liter Hyundai D4FE or Smartstream D 1.6 CRDi engine has been produced since 2017 and is installed on such popular concern models as the i30, i40, Ceed, Sportage or Tucson. This diesel engine exists in two different power versions: 116 hp / 280 Nm and 136 hp / 320 Nm.

Engine Hyundai-Kia D4FD

The 1.7-liter diesel engine Hyundai D4FD or 1.7 CRDi was produced from 2010 to 2019 and was installed on such popular concern models as ix35, i40, Optima, Tucson and Sportage. There are two modifications of such a unit: for environmentally friendly Euro 5 standards and updated for Euro 6..

Engine Hyundai D4BA

The company produced the 2.5-liter Hyundai D4BA diesel engine from 1989 to 2003 and installed it both on commercial vehicles and on the Starex minibus and Galloper SUV. This power unit is essentially just a clone of the popular Mitsubishi 4D56 diesel engine.

Engine Hyundai D4BF

The company assembled the Hyundai D4BF 2.5-liter turbo diesel engine from 1991 to 2004 and installed it on the popular H1, Starex and Grace minibuses, as well as Galloper SUVs. This motor, in essence, was only one of the modifications of the Mitsubishi 4D56 turbodiesel.

Engine Hyundai D4BH

The 2.5-liter Hyundai D4BH diesel engine has been assembled by the Korean concern since 1997 and is known from the Galloper and Terrakan SUVs, as well as the H1 and Starex minibuses. This power unit was a clone of the Mitsubishi 4D56 turbocharged diesel engine with an intercooler.

Engine Hyundai D4BB

The 2.6-liter Hyundai D4BB diesel engine was produced by the company from 1993 to 2004 and was installed not only on commercial vehicles, but also on the H1 minibus and the Galloper SUV. This motor was just one of the many clones of the famous Mitsubishi 4D56 diesel engine.
