Opel engines

OpelAdam Opel AG is a German automobile manufacturer formerly part of the General Motors concern. The headquarters are located in Rüsselsheim, Germany. The company was founded on January 21, 1863 and began producing cars in 1899. Since 2017 it belongs to the PSA concern.

The name of the engines of this manufacturer consists of two numbers and three or four Latin letters:

  • The first letter here indicates the environmental standard: C – Euro 1, X – Euro 2, Y – Euro 3, Z – Euro 4, A – Euro 5;
  • The next two digits indicate the volume of the engine in liters multiplied by 10;
  • The remaining letters describe the unit, for example D – diesel, and T – the presence of turbocharging.

The catalog contains engines for the following Opel models: Astra | Corsa | Insignia | Meriva | Mokka | Vectra | Zafira.

Engine Opel A22DM

The 2.2-liter A22DM engine or Opel Antara 2.2 diesel was produced from 2010 to 2015 and was installed on the updated version of the popular 1st generation Antara crossover. A modification of this engine for the Chevrolet Captiva is known under its index LNQ or Z22D1.

Engine Opel A22DMH

The 2.2-liter A22DMH engine or Opel Antara 2.2 CDTi was assembled in Korea from 2010 to 2015 and was installed on a restyled modification of the popular Antara crossover. The version of this power unit for the Chevrolet Captiva C140 is known under the index LNQ and Z22D1.

Engine Opel Y26SE

The 2.6-liter Opel Y26SE or LY9 engine was assembled in the UK from 2000 to 2003 and was installed on restyled versions of such popular models as the Vectra B and Omega B. This gasoline engine belongs to the very extensive General Motors 54° V6 engine family.

Engine Opel X12XE

The 1.2-liter Opel X12XE or LW4 engine was assembled at a plant in Austria from 1998 to 2000 and installed on basic modifications of such popular models as Astra G or Corsa B. The unit belonged to the GM Family 0 engine series and, during the transition to Euro 4, changed the index to Z12XE.

Engine Opel A12XER

The 1.2-liter 16-valve Opel A12XER or LDC engine was produced from 2009 to 2014 and installed on the fourth generation Corsa and the similar Chevrolet Aveo in the back of the T300. There was a derated version of this motor up to 69 hp under the symbol A12XEL or LWD.

Engine Opel A14NET/NEL

1.4-liter Opel A14NET or LUJ engine has been assembled since 2009 at the Wien-Aspern plant and is installed in a number of popular models of the company, such as Astra, Meriva, Mokka and Zafira. Now such units are gradually being replaced by modern Euro 6 engines of the new B-series.

Engine Opel A14XER

The 1.4-liter Opel A14XER or Ecotec LDD engine has been produced by the company since 2009 and is installed on such popular compact models of the concern as Corsa, Meriva, Adam. Now the units of this family are gradually being replaced by new Euro 6 B-series engines.

Engine Opel A16XER

The 1.6-liter Opel A16XER or Ecotec LDE engine has been produced by the concern since 2008 and is installed on the most popular models of the company, such as Astra, Zafira, Mokka, Insignia. Now such power units are gradually giving way to Euro 6 engines of the latest B-series.

Engine Opel A16LET

The 1.6-liter turbo engine Opel A16LET or LLU was assembled from 2008 to 2013 in Hungary and installed on charged modifications of such popular models as Astra and Insignia. There are other versions in terms of power: A16LEL, A16LER and A16LES.

Engine Opel A16XHT

The 1.6-liter Opel A16XHT or LVP engine has been produced since 2013 at the company’s Hungarian plant and is installed on advanced versions of such popular models as the Insignia and Astra. This power unit has a more powerful Performance Turbo version under the A16SHT index.

Engine Opel A18XER

The 1.8-liter Opel A18XER or Ecotec 2H0 engine was assembled from 2008 to 2015 in Hungary and installed on such popular company models as Mokka, Insignia and two generations of Zafira. A-XER motors are considered the most reliable among all the group’s units of their time.

Engine Opel A20NHT

The 2.0-liter Opel A20NHT or LDK engine was produced by the company from 2008 to 2013 and was installed only on expensive versions of the rather popular Insignia model. This power unit was considered very unreliable and soon gave way to the A20NFT motor.

Engine Opel A20NFT

The 2.0-liter Opel A20NFT or LTG engine has been assembled since 2012 instead of the A20NHT engine and is installed on the restyled Insignia and the charged Astra modification with the OPC index. This power unit on the racing version of the Astra Touring Car Racing was boosted to 330 hp and 420 Nm.

Engine Opel A24XE

The 2.4-liter gasoline engine Opel A24XE or A24XF was produced from 2010 to 2018 and was installed on European versions of such popular models as Opel Antara and Chevrolet Captiva. These motors are essentially versions of the GM LE5 and LE9 units, which have been known since 2006.

Engine Opel A28NET

The 2.8-liter Opel A28NET or LP9 engine was produced in Australia from 2008 to 2013 and was installed on charged versions of the Insignia and on the second generation Saab 9-5 under the B284L index. There was a modification of this turbo unit under the index A28NER, boosted to 325 hp and 435 Nm.

Opel A30XH or A30HF 3.0-liter V6 petrol engine has been produced only since 2010 and is installed on a number of large GM models, including the popular Antara and Captiva. These motors in the catalog of the American concern carry the indices LF1 and LFW, respectively.

The 1.4-liter Opel C14NZ engine was produced from 1989 to 1996 at a German company and was installed on the most popular models of its time, such as Astra, Corsa, Kadett. This power unit replaced the well-known C13N engine on the conveyor, then gave way to the X14XE.

Engine Opel C20XE

The 2.0-liter Opel C20XE engine was produced from 1987 to 1996 at a German plant and was installed on charged versions of such popular models as Astra, Vectra, Calibra. The power unit was seriously upgraded in 1993, so there are two versions of it.

The 2.0-liter turbo Opel C20LET engine was assembled at a German plant from 1992 to 1997 and installed on sports modifications of a number of popular models such as Vectra, Calibra. This power unit was very popular among fans of inexpensive garage tuning.

Engine Opel C24NE

The 2.4-liter Opel C24NE or LU6 engine was produced by the company from 1988 to 1995 and was installed on the largest models of the concern such as Omega or the Frontera SUV. This power unit is not related to the C20NE, as it was created on the basis of the old 1.6N engine.

Engine Opel C30SE

The 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder Opel C30SE engine was produced from 1989 to 1993 and was installed on the top versions of the first generation Omega model and the similar Senator. There was a derated version of this motor for an automatic gearbox with the C30SEJ index.

Engine Opel X14XE

The 1.4-liter Opel X14XE engine was produced from 1994 to 2001 at the Hungarian plant and was installed on many popular compact models of the concern such as Corsa, Tigra, Astra. This power unit, after being upgraded to comply with EURO 4 environmental standards, received a different Z14XE index.

Engine Opel X16XEL

The 1.6-liter Opel X16XEL engine was produced from 1994 to 2000 at a plant in Hungary and was installed on the most popular mid-size models of the concern, such as Astra, Vectra. There was a slightly more powerful version of this power unit with a different X16XE index.

Engine Opel X20SE

The 2.0-liter Opel X20SE engine was assembled from 1995 to 1999 at an enterprise in Germany and was installed on the two largest models of the concern of its time, Omega and Frontera. This unit essentially differs little from its predecessor, the motor under the C20NE index.

Engine Opel X20XEV

The 2.0-liter Opel X20XEV or Ecotec L34 engine was assembled from 1994 to 2000 in Germany and was installed on the vast majority of mid-size models of the concern of its time. After a major update in 1998, a new ECU and balancer shafts appeared in the engines.

Engine Opel X22SE

The 2.2-liter Opel X22SE engine was produced by the German concern from 1998 to 2000 and was installed only on the second generation of the very popular Frontera SUV. This unit was updated to EURO 3 environmental standards in 2000 and received a new Y22SE index.

Engine Opel X22XE

The 2.2-liter Opel X22XE engine was assembled from 1995 to 1999 at different factories of the concern and was installed on the first generation of the Frontera SUV and the popular Sintra minivan. This power unit in the EURO 3 version of the Y22XE was installed on the well-known Omega model.

The 3.0-liter Opel X30XE or Ecotec L81 engine was produced in England from 1994 to 2001 and was installed on such popular concern models as Omega, Sintra and Cadillac Catera. There was an even more powerful and very rare version of this unit with the X30XEI index.

Engine Opel Z10XE

The 1.0-liter Opel Z10XE or LW3 engine was assembled from 2000 to 2003 at a plant in Austria and was installed only on the third generation of the popular Corsa model and the very first Agila. This power unit is part of an extensive family of low-volume GM family 0 engines.

Engine Opel Z10XEP

The 1.0-liter Opel Z10XEP or LJ4 engine was produced from 2003 to 2009 in Austria and was installed only on the third and fourth generations of the Corsa model or the very first Agila. The motor was distinguished by the presence of a proprietary system for changing the geometry of the Twinport intake tract.

The 1.3-liter Opel A13DTE or LSF diesel engine was produced from 2009 to 2017 at a joint venture between General Motors and Fiat in the Polish town of Bielsko-Biala. This power unit is essentially an updated version of the famous Z13DTH diesel engine.

Engine Opel A17DTJ

The 1.7-liter diesel engine Opel A17DTJ or LPV was produced from 2009 to 2011 at the Polish plant of the concern and was installed on a number of mass models, such as Astra, Zafira. This unit from 2007 to 2009 was produced in EURO 4 modifications under a different index Z17DTJ.
