Descriptions and technical characteristics of engines for the most popular car models.
The 1.5-liter Mazda P5-VPS or SkyActiv-G 1.5 gasoline engine has been produced at the plant in Japan since 2013 and is installed on the company’s most compact models under the indexes 2 or Demio and 3 or Axela. There is a modification of this motor with the P5-VP index for the rear-wheel drive model MX-5.

The Mazda WL-T 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine was built in Japan from 1995 to 2006 and fitted to rear and all-wheel drive models such as the MPV, Bongo Friendee and Proceed Marvie. Modifications of this power unit with an electronically controlled high pressure fuel pump are often referred to as WL‑TE.
The Mazda SH-VPTS or Skyactiv-D 2.2-liter diesel engine has been assembled at the plant in Japan since 2013 and is installed on the most popular CX-5 and CX-8 crossovers in the production range. A similar diesel engine is installed on passenger models of the Japanese company, but with the SH-VPTR index.

The 2.3-liter Honda H23A engine was assembled at the company’s Japanese plant from 1992 to 2002 and installed on some modifications of the fourth-generation Accord and Prelude models. There were two versions of the motor: with a black cover without VTEC and charged with a blue cover.

The D13B motor was produced in a version with a carburetor and an injector, with a cylinder head for 8 and 16 valves.
The 3.5-liter gasoline V6 Honda C35A engine was produced by the concern from 1995 to 2004 and was installed on the third generation of the Legend model or its counterpart under the name Acura RL. There were five modifications of this motor, which did not differ much from each other.
The 3.2-liter V6 Honda C32A engine was produced at the concern’s factories from 1990 to 1999 and was installed on the second generation of Legend models, Inspire and analogues under the Acura brand. In addition to standard engine modifications for 200 – 205 hp, there was a Type 2 version with 230 hp.
The 2.7-liter V6 Honda C27A engine was produced by the company from 1987 to 1997 and was installed on the first generation of the popular Legend model, the fifth Accord and the Rover 827. There were several versions of the unit: with and without a variable intake geometry system.
The B20B engine is Honda’s most popular and largest B-series engine. The representatives of this series are based on an aluminum cylinder block with steel liners. The engine has a twin-shaft head with sixteen valves. It uses a timing belt that requires timely replacement to avoid breaking it. The engine does not have hydraulic lifters, so it is necessary to periodically adjust the valves. There is no VTEC variable valve timing system.
Unlike the B18B, on which the manufacturer experimented without using VTEC, Honda decided to add VTEC to the 1.8-liter engine for the B18C. The release of the B18C engine marked the emergence of a new generation of engines with “motorcycle” characteristics, when more than 100 hp were obtained from one liter of volume, and which could spin over 9000 rpm.
The 1.8-liter Honda B18B gasoline engine was produced in Japan from 1992 to 2000 and was installed on several popular models of the company, primarily Civic and Integra. The B18B motor exists in four modifications, which are slightly different from each other.
The 1.6-liter Honda B16B engine was produced at a Japanese company from 1997 to 2000 and was exclusively installed only on the Civic Type R sports model and only in the EK9 body. The B16B motor had the highest boost rate of 110 hp per 1 liter for its time.
Honda first released the legendary B16 series engine in 1989. It was a B16A engine with two camshafts and Honda’s proprietary valve timing system – VTEC. The engine was installed on the Japanese model Honda Integra. This is the first engine in which Honda has used the proprietary VTEC system. It was from this moment that the DOHC VTEC marking on the engine cover became the hallmark of uprated engines from Honda.
The 2.2-liter Ford 2.2 TDCi diesel engines were produced by the company from 2006 to 2018 and were installed on a number of popular models under the Ford, Land Rover and Jaguar brands. In fact, these power units are clones of the Peugeot DW12MTED4 and DW12CTED4 engines.
The 1.6-liter Ford 1.6 TDCi diesel engines were produced by the concern from 2004 to 2017 in two different generations: the first with a 16-valve cylinder head and the second with an 8-valve cylinder head. The 1.4-liter Ford 1.4 TDCi or DLD-414 diesel engines were produced from 2002 to 2014 and were installed on models such as the Fiesta and Fusion, as well as on the Mazda 2 under the Y404 index. This diesel engine was created jointly with the Peugeot-Citroen concern and is completely similar to the Peugeot 1.4 HDi.
The 1.8-liter Ford C9DA, C9DB, C9DC or 1.8 Endura-DI engine was assembled from 1999 to 2004 and installed on the very first generation of the Focus model in versions before and after restyling. This unit, unlike a number of predecessors, has become widespread.

The 1.8-liter Ford RFA / RFB or 1.8 Endura-DE engine was produced from 1990 to 1993 and was installed on the second generation of the popular Sierra model in the restyled version. This power unit had low reliability, which earned it a bad reputation.
The 1.8-liter diesel engine Ford RVA or 1.8 Endura-DE was assembled from 1995 to 1998 and was installed on the sixth generation of the Escort model, in a number of sources it is considered the seventh. The motor was not famous for its reliability, but it had a simple design and good repairability.
The 1.8-liter Ford RTK / RTJ or 1.8 Endura DE engine was produced from 1995 to 2000 and was installed on the fourth generation of the popular Fiesta model, in the pre-facelift version. This diesel engine is not very reliable, but it is repairable due to its simple design.
The 2.4-liter Ford JXFA engine or 2.4 TDCi Duratorq Puma was produced from 2006 to 2014 and was installed on the seventh (in some sources, the fourth) generation of Transit minibuses. This diesel unit was part of the Common Rail series of engines with power from 100 to 140 hp.
