The 2.0-liter Volkswagen DAUA diesel engine was produced by the concern from 2016 to 2019 and was installed on the second generation of Crafter minibuses or a similar MAN TGE. An updated version of this power unit appeared in 2019 and has its own DNAE index.
EA288 or VW 1.6/2.0 TDI engines
The line of VW EA288 1.6 and 2.0 TDI diesel engines was first introduced in 2012 and at that moment almost completely replaced its predecessors on the group’s models. Formally, this family also included 1.4 TDI diesels.
Diesel engines EA288 1.6 TDI
In 2012, new diesel engines were introduced to replace the power units of the EA189 family. Structurally, they were very similar to their predecessors, here the same cast-iron block and a 16-valve aluminum cylinder head with hydraulic lifters, the same timing belt drive and a variable geometry turbine, which is here made integral with the exhaust manifold. There were again two main working volumes: engines of 1.6 liters or 2.0 liters were offered.
However, the new diesel powertrains received some rather serious differences. First of all, expensive capricious piezo injectors have given way to simple electromagnetic ones, and an oil pump with adjustable output is combined in one housing with a vacuum one. The rest of the innovations were mainly related to ecology, a number of versions already supported Euro 6.
There were a lot of engine modifications:
- CLHA (105 hp / 250 Nm) for Golf 7, Octavia 3;
- CLHB (90 hp / 230 Nm) for Golf 7, Octavia 3;
- CRKA (90 hp / 230 Nm) for Golf 7;
- CRKB (110 hp / 250 Nm) for Audi A3 8V, Golf 7;
- CXXB (110 hp / 250 Nm) for Seat Leon 3, Golf 7;
- DBKA (110 hp / 250 Nm) for Audi A3 8V, Octavia 3;
- DDYA (115 hp / 250 Nm) for Audi A3 8V, Octavia 3;
- DCXA (120 hp / 250 Nm) for Passat B8, Superb 3;
Diesel engines EA288 2.0 TDI
2-liter diesel engines did not differ from their younger counterparts in anything other than the working volume. The only thing is that their most powerful modifications were equipped with a block of balancing shafts.
There were a great many versions of them:
- CKFC (150 hp / 320 Nm) for Octavia 3;
- CRLB (150 hp / 340 Nm) for Audi A3 8V, Passat B8;
- CRMB (150 hp / 320 Nm) for Octavia 3, Golf 7;
- CUWA (184 hp / 380 Nm) for Audi Q3 8U;
- DEUA (150 hp / 320 Nm) for Audi A4 B9, A5 F5;
- DETA (190 hp / 400 Nm) for Audi A4 B9, Q5 FY;
- DBGC (150 hp / 340 Nm) for Tiguan 2, Kodiaq 1;
- DFGA (150 hp / 340 Nm) for Tiguan 2, Kodiaq 1;
Diesel engines EA288 EVO
In 2018, the company showed an updated line of diesel engines of the EA288 family. Firstly, the new units switched to an aluminum cylinder block with steel liners. Secondly, the vacuum and oil pumps were separated again, the experiment was declared unsuccessful. Thirdly, the turbocharger was placed closer to the first cylinder to improve the environment.
Also, the line of updated power units was divided into two different families: economical with small steel pistons, productive with large aluminum ones.
These motors have only recently begun to be installed:
- DEZB (136 hp / 320 Nm) for Audi A4 B9;
- DEZD (163 hp / 380 Nm) for Audi A6 C8;
- DFBA (204 hp / 400 Nm) for Audi A6 C8, A7 C8;
- DFHA (190 hp / 400 Nm) for Audi Q3 F3;
The 1.6-liter Volkswagen DCXA 1.6 TDI diesel engine has been assembled by the company since 2014 and is installed on such popular models as the Passat B8 and the third generation Skoda Superb. This powertrain is mainly offered in Europe and is rare in other markets.
The 2.0-liter VW CRLB or Passat B8 2.0 TDI diesel engine has been produced since 2012 and is installed on such popular models as the Volkswagen Passat, Skoda Superb, Audi A3. This motor was one of the first representatives of the transverse EA288 series.
The 2.0-liter VW CRMB or Golf 7 2.0 TDI diesel engine has been assembled by the company since 2012 and installed on a number of its mass models such as the Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Octavia and Seat Leon. This diesel has become widespread thanks to the installation in the third generation Octavia.
The Audi DETA or A4 B9 2.0 TDI 2.0-liter diesel engine has been assembled since 2015 and installed in its popular longitudinal models. There is a similar diesel engine with the same power characteristics and DESA index.
The 2.0-liter Volkswagen DBGC 2.0 TDI diesel engine has been assembled by the concern since 2016 and is installed on the company’s most famous crossovers: the Skoda Kodiaq and the second generation Tiguan. This motor is essentially an environmentally simplified modification of a diesel engine with the DFGA index.
The 2.0-liter Volkswagen DFGA 2.0 TDI engine was first introduced by the company in 2016 and is found on such popular crossovers as the second generation Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq. This diesel engine is distributed only in Europe, in some other markets its EURO 5 analogue DBGC is installed.
The 2.0-liter Audi DFBA 2.0 TDI diesel engine has been produced by the company only since 2018 and is installed on European versions of such popular models as the A6 and A7 in the C8 body. This motor belongs to the latest family of diesel engines of the German concern EA288 EVO.
