The 2.5-liter Volkswagen AXE 2.5 TDI diesel engine was produced from 2003 to 2009 and was installed only on Transporter, Caravelle or Multivan minibuses in the T5 body. There is a modification of this unit for EURO 4 with a particulate filter and BPC index.
The EA153 series also includes: AAB, AJT, ACV, AXG, BAC, BPE, AXD, AXE, AJS, AYH.

The engine was installed on:
- Volkswagen Caravelle T5 (7H) in 2003 – 2009;
- Volkswagen Multivan T5 (7H) in 2003 – 2009;
- Volkswagen Transporter T5 (7H) in 2003 – 2009.
Disadvantages of the VW AXE engine
- The main problems are leaks from the seals of the nozzles and the tandem pump;
- Another aluminum block without sleeves is very afraid of bad diesel fuel and is prone to scuffing;
- Often, the oil system heat exchanger leaks here and the lubricant enters the antifreeze;
- Closer to 200,000 km of run, rockers or camshaft cams may already wear out;
- This unit still has a lot of weaknesses, but they are typical for modern diesel engines.
