The 2.5-liter Volkswagen BPE 2.5 TDI diesel engine was produced from 2006 to 2009 and was installed on the first generation of the Touareg SUV in a restyled modification. This diesel engine is essentially an updated version of a similar engine under the BAC index.
The EA153 series also includes: AAB, AJT, ACV, AXG, BAC, BPE, AXD, AXE, AJS, AYH.

The engine was installed on:
- Volkswagen Touareg 1 (7L) in 2006 – 2009.
Disadvantages of the VW BPE engine
- The updated aluminum block is also prone to scuffing like its predecessor;
- Unit-injectors last approximately 150,000 km and then usually leak through the seals;
- After 200,000 km, wear of rockers and camshaft cams is often found here;
- On runs of 250 – 300 thousand kilometers, timing gears may require attention;
- A pump or a heat exchanger often leaks here and the oil is mixed with antifreeze.
