BMW N62B48 engine has two versions. Engine displacement, power, bore and stroke are the same for both versions: the displacement is 4.8 liters (4799 cc), the bore is 93 mm, and the piston stroke is 88.3 mm. The power output of one version is 265 kW (360 hp) at 6200 rpm and torque of 500 Nm at 3400 rpm. The second version develops power of 367 hp (270 kW) at 6200 rpm and torque of 490 Nm at 3400 rpm.

Frequent problems
- Excessive oil consumption. When the engine travels over 100 thousand km, problems associated with increased oil consumption begin. The reason is damage to the valve stem seals and rings. Problems with the latter appear at 50-100 thousand kilometers.
- Instability of revolutions. The reason must be sought primarily in faulty ignition coils. Their complete replacement will be required. Another reason could be a flow meter, air suction system or valvetronic.
- Oil leak. As a rule, the problem manifests itself on the crankshaft oil seal. Sometimes the gasket on the generator housing deteriorates. Repair actions are reduced to their complete replacement.
The longer the motor is actively used, the more likely the catalysts are destroyed. During this process, their honeycombs penetrate the cylinders and cause scuffing. For this reason, it is recommended to completely remove them and install flame arresters. The correct approach to its maintenance helps to improve the operation of the unit and maximize its resource. Besides, you shouldn’t save on fuel and oil.
