Engine BMW N62B44

The BMW N62B44 engine has two versions. Displacement, power, bore and stroke are the same for both versions: 4.4 liters (4398 cc), 92 mm bore and 82.7 mm stroke. Developed power of one version is 315 hp at 6100 rpm, and torque is 440 Nm at 3700 rpm. The second version develops 333 hp at 6100 rpm, its torque is 450 Nm at 3600 rpm.

Frequent problems

  1. Increased oil consumption. After the motor has traveled more than 100 thousand km, as a rule, the car user notices this problem. It is almost always the result of wear on the valve stem seals, and sometimes on the valve stem rings. Both components require timely replacement.
  2. Spread in turnover. Interruptions in the operation of this type of unit in most cases are associated with damage to the ignition coils. The device needs to be replaced. In addition, the cause may be depressurization and air pumping, as well as broken valvetronic and flow meter.
  3. Oil leak. As a rule, the oil seal on the crankshaft always leaks. Also, the generator case gasket is not insured against this. They will need to be replaced.

On the N62 there is another drawback – the destructuring of the catalyst, as a result of which its internal small fragments-cells penetrate into the cylinders and lead to seizures. You can cure the engine from this disease by replacing the catalysts with flame arresters. To increase the resource of the unit, it is necessary to monitor the quality of the fuel and lubricants used, as well as to carry out its maintenance on time.
