Engine Nissan YD25

Engine Nissan YD25

The 2.5-liter diesel engine Nissan YD25DDTi or YD25 has been produced since 1998 and is installed on the most popular minibuses, pickups and SUVs of the company. This motor replaced the CD20 and TD25 on some cars. The cylinder block here is an in-line 4-cylinder, cast iron, with a cylinder diameter of 89 mm. Inside the block there is a crankshaft with a piston stroke of 100 mm, and the length of the connecting rods is 154.5 mm. All this gives 2.5 liters of working volume.

The most popular YD25DDTi came in 2005 for Nissan Navara (D40) and Pathfinder (R51). It originally produced 126 kW (171 PS; 169 PS) at 4,000 rpm and 403 Nm of torque. In 2010, Nissan updated the engine for the Nissan Navara (D40) and Nissan Pathfinder (R51) with the aim of generating 140 kW (190 PS; 188 PS) and 450 Nm of torque. In 2011, the Nissan Murano was equipped with an updated 140 kW engine and 450 Nm of torque.

The engine was installed on:

  • Nissan Bassara 1 (JU30) in 1999 – 2003;
  • Nissan Murano 2 (Z51) in 2010 – 2014;
  • Nissan Navara 2 (D22) in 1998 – 2004; Navara 2 (D40) in 2004 – …; Navara D23 in 2014 – …;
  • Nissan Pathfinder 3 (R51) in 2005 – 2012; Pathfinder 4 (R52) in 2012 – …;
  • Nissan Presage 1 (U30) in 1998 – 2003.

Frequent problems

The YD25 engine, with proper care, regular maintenance and the use of quality oil and fuel, is quite reliable and hassle-free. It needs periodic adjustment of the valve clearances, but this is recommended in case of noise. The injectors here serve about 150 thousand km, the turbine resource is more than 250-300 thousand km, it would also be nice to systematically clean the EGR valve – soot accumulates quite quickly. With adequate care, the resource of the YD25DDTi engine exceeds 300 thousand km.

    This engine was fitted in Barcelona,Spain from 2000 to 2015 on Nissan Primastar,Opel Movano,Renault Trafic Vans and Navara, Pathfinder .But result was problems in engine low that made un-repairable many times this engine.So we need used engines…Can anybody supply?Or we must buy new?

  2. Nice discussion very educational my Paps YD25 has about 260000km and it seems on other days the acceleration is low while making a loud growling sound .Any advice to what maybe the cause .
