Disadvantages of the Mercedes M177 engine

  • First of all, this engine does not like tuning very much; its connecting rods cannot withstand;
  • However, in stock it has a good service life and with proper maintenance it does not bother you;
  • Even the Nanoslide coating instead of cast iron sleeves serves without any special problems;
  • It is important to use only high-quality fuel or the injectors will quickly fail;
  • Some owners experienced oil pump failure on runs up to 100,000 km;
  • Also on specialized forums they often complain about leaks and low service life of spark plugs and ignition coils;
  • A recall campaign was carried out to replace the turbine oil pipeline and drain plug.
