EA897 or Audi V6 TDI engines

The V6 series of Audi EA897 3.0 TDI diesel engines has been produced at the Győr plant since 2010 and is still actively installed on almost all major models of the German company. The family is conditionally divided into three generations of engines, the second is called EVO, and the third EVO2.

Diesel engines 3.0 TDI

In 2010, the second generation 3.0 TDI engines debuted on the Audi A8 D4. The new diesel engines were essentially just a big upgrade of their predecessors: the Bosch Common Rail system with piezo injectors was updated, the intake manifold was redesigned, except that the timing has changed seriously and now there are a couple of large chains instead of four small ones.

The basis of the design remained the same: a cast-iron block with a 90-degree camber angle, two aluminum cylinder heads, two camshafts each and 24 valves with hydraulic compensators. The Honeywell GT2256 or GT2260 turbine is responsible for supercharging, depending on the engine version.

The line includes dozens of power units, the most powerful of them with twin turbocharging:

3.0 TDI 24v (2967 cc, 83 x 91.4 mm), Common Rail:

  • CLAA (204 hp / 400 Nm);
  • CLAB (204 hp / 400 Nm);
  • CJMA (204 hp / 450 Nm) for Audi Q7 1 (4L), VW Touareg 2 (7P);
  • CDUC (245 hp / 500 Nm) for Audi A4 B8 (8K), Audi A5 1 (8T);
  • CDUD (245 hp / 580 Nm) for Audi A6 C7 (4G), Audi A7 C7 (4G);
  • CDTA (250 hp / 550 Nm);
  • CKVB (245 hp / 500 Nm);
  • CKVC (245 hp / 580 Nm);
  • CRCA (245 hp / 550 Nm) for Audi Q7 1 (4L), VW Touareg 2 (7P);
  • CTBA (258 hp / 580 Nm);
  • CGQB (313 hp / 650 Nm);

In addition to Volkswagen and Audi, such a diesel engine was installed on the Porsche Panamera under the MCR.CC index.

Diesel engines EVO 3.0 TDI

In 2014, diesel power units of the EA897 family received their first restyling. The main changes were related to the environment, now all versions began to support EURO 6. The timing was revised again, a third chain appeared in front of the engine to drive the oil pump.

The conventional turbine HTT GT 2260 gave way to a variable geometry version of the GTD 2060 VZ, thanks to which it was possible to slightly, but reduce the compression ratio in the engine from 16.8 to 16.

The new line included a fairly large number of units, all with single turbocharging:

  • CRTC (272 hp / 600 Nm) for Audi A4 B9 (8W), Audi A5 2 (F5);
  • CSWB (218 hp / 500 Nm);
  • CTBD (262 hp / 580 Nm);
  • CVMD (249 hp / 600 Nm) for Audi Q7 2 (4M), Audi Q8 1 (4M);
  • CVUA (320 hp / 650 Nm);
  • CVWA (204 hp / 450 Nm);
  • CVZA (258 hp / 600 Nm);
  • CZVA (218 hp / 400 Nm);
  • CZVB (218 hp / 400 Nm);
  • CZVE (190 hp / 400 Nm);
  • CZVF (190 hp / 500 Nm);

In addition to the Volkswagen and Audi models, such an engine was installed on the Porsche Macan under the MCT.BA index.

Diesel engines EVO-2 3.0 TDI

In 2017, the EA897 family of diesel engines was once again upgraded and again the main changes were related to the environment, now due to the support of Euro 6D.

The engine design was slightly optimized, the cylinder block lost more than a kilogram of weight, a new exhaust gas aftertreatment module appeared, a significantly more compact timing, a different turbocharger with variable geometry and a maximum boost pressure of 3.3 bar.

The latest line of diesels keeps growing and also includes engines for the Volkswagen Amarok and Touareg:

3.0 TDI EVO2 24v (2967 cc, 83 x 91.4 mm), Common Rail:

  • DCPC (286 hp / 620 Nm) for Audi Q5 2 (FY);
  • DMKC (341 hp / 700 Nm) for Audi S4 B9 (8W), Audi S5 2 (F5);
  • DDVB (286 hp / 620 Nm);
  • DDVC (286 hp / 600 Nm);
  • DHXA (286 hp / 600 Nm) for Audi Q7 2 (4M), Audi Q8 1 (4M);
  • DDXC (224 hp / 550 Nm) for VW Amarok 1 (2H);
  • DDXE (258 hp / 580 Nm) for VW Amarok 1 (2H);
  • DPYC (231 hp / 500 Nm) for VW Touareg 3 (CR).

Engine Volkswagen DDXC

The 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel Volkswagen DDXC has been produced since 2016 and is installed on the Volkswagen Amarok. This EA897 diesel with Common Rail injection and a chain-driven timing system produces 224 hp and 550 Nm.

Engine Volkswagen DDXE

The 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel Volkswagen DDXE has been produced since 2018 and is installed on the Volkswagen Amarok. This EA897 diesel with Common Rail injection and a chain-driven timing system produces 258 hp and 580 Nm.

Engine Volkswagen DPYC

The 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel Volkswagen DPYC has been produced since 2020 and is installed on the Volkswagen Touareg. This EA897 diesel with Common Rail injection and a chain-driven timing system produces 231 hp and 500 Nm.

Engine Audi DMKC

The 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel Audi DMKC was produced from 2020 to 2024 and was installed on the Audi S4, Audi S5, Audi SQ5 and Audi SQ5 Sportback. This EA897 diesel with Common Rail injection and a chain-driven timing system produces 341 hp and 700 Nm. In addition to the turbocharger it has an electrically driven compressor and works with a 48-volt mild hybrid system; the version for the S6 and S7 is called DMKD.

Engine Audi DHXA

The 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel Audi DHXA was produced from 2018 to 2022 and was installed on the Audi Q7 and Audi Q8. This EA897 diesel with Common Rail injection and a chain-driven timing system produces 286 hp and 600 Nm. It works with a mild hybrid system.

Engine Volkswagen CJMA

The 3.0-liter Volkswagen CJMA 3.0 TDI engine was produced by the concern from 2010 to 2018 and was installed on the base modification of the Touareg model, as well as the European version of the Q7. This engine is essentially a version of a diesel engine under the CRCA index, derated to 204 hp.

Engine Audi CDUC

The 3.0-liter Audi CDUC 3.0 TDI diesel engine was assembled by the company from 2010 to 2015 and installed on such popular models of the German concern as the A4 B8, A6 C7 or A7 C7.

Engine Audi CDUD

The 3.0-liter Audi CDUD 3.0 TDI engine was assembled by the German concern from 2010 to 2014 and installed on a number of popular company models, such as the A6 C7, A7 C7 and the Q5 crossover.

Engine Volkswagen CRCA

The 3.0-liter Volkswagen CRCA 3.0 TDI diesel engine was produced from 2011 to 2018 and was installed only on the two most popular group crossovers: Touareg NF or Q7 4L. Such a power unit was installed on the Porsche Cayenne and Panamera under the indices MCR.CA and MCR.CC.

Engine Audi CRTC

The 3.0-liter Audi CRTC 3.0 TDI diesel engine was assembled by the concern from 2015 to 2018 and installed on European modifications of such popular models as the A4, A5 or Q7. This motor belonged to the updated EVO series, which quickly gave way to the EVO-2.

Engine Audi CVMD

The 3.0-liter Audi CVMD 3.0 TDI diesel engine has been assembled by the concern only since 2015 and is installed on modifications of the Q7, Q8 and Volkswagen Touareg 3 crossovers. Its power is limited to 249 hp especially for some markets.

Engine Audi DCPC

The 3.0-liter Audi DCPC 3.0 TDI diesel engine has been assembled at the Győr plant since 2017 and is installed only in the Q5 crossover, very popular in the European market. This diesel belongs to the EA897 EVO-2 series and meets the stringent Euro 6d-TEMP emission standards.
