The 1.9-liter 8-valve VW BXE 1.9 TDI diesel engine was assembled from 2006 to 2010 and was installed on many concern models manufactured under the Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda brands. It was these diesel engines that were marked by a batch of defective liners that wore out quickly.

The EA188-1.9 series also includes: AJM, ASZ, AUY, AVB, AVF, AWX, AXB, AXC, BKC, BLS, BXE.

Disadvantages of the VW BXE engine

  • On these diesel engines of certain years of production, there were defective liners;
  • Poor quality oil contributes to the wear of hydraulic lifters and camshaft cams;
  • Unit injectors fixed with only one bolt can leak over time;
  • The culprit for engine thrust failures is usually a jammed turbine geometry;
  • Servicemen consider the tandem pump another weak point of this engine.
