In 1996, the M60 engines were replaced by a new modified M62 series, and the M60B40 engine was replaced by the updated M62B44. The basis for the creation of a 4.4-liter power unit was the predecessor M60B40, the cylinder block of which has changed for an increased cylinder diameter, the sleeves here are nikasil, since 1998 nikasil has been replaced by alusil. The 2.5-liter BMW M51 diesel engine was assembled at a plant in Austria from 1991 to 2001 and installed on such popular models as the 3-Series in the E36 body and the 5-Series in the E34 and E39 bodies. Engine BMW M57D30

Motors of the M57 series began to be installed on Munich cars since 1998 and replaced the diesel M51. The new M57D30 engine was developed on the basis of its predecessor, it also uses a cast-iron cylinder block, but the diameter of the cylinders themselves is increased. Here is an aluminum DOHC head with 24 valves.
