The 1.5-liter Toyota 5A-FHE gasoline engine was produced by the concern from 1989 to 1992 and was installed on the sixth generation of the popular Corolla model or a similar Sprinter. This power unit was essentially a sports modification of the 5A-FE engine.
The A family also includes engines: 8A‑FE, 5A‑FE, 5A‑FHE, 4A‑FE, 4A‑FHE, 4A‑GE, 4A‑GZE, 7A‑FE.
The engine was installed on:

Disadvantages of the 5A-FHE engine
- Despite the sporty settings, this engine has not lost in reliability at all;
- On specialized forums, problems of ignition system components are most often discussed;
- Also, nozzles and a throttle quickly become dirty here, so the engine speed floats;
- There are no hydraulic lifters and once every 100,000 km you need to adjust the valve clearances;
- On long runs, an oil burner is often found or piston pins knock.
