The BMW 4-Series is a series of German prestigious compact cars from the manufacturer BMW AG. The release began in 2013. In 2014, the series was supplemented by the BMW M4 sports cars. Cars of the 4th series are produced in sedan, coupe and convertible body modifications. The car has a rear and front wheel drive layout. The 4-Series is based on the new generation of 3 Series cars – the BMW E90. The 4-Series is assembled in four trim levels – basic, luxury, Sport and M Sport at factories in Germany.
The 4-cylinder N20B20 turbo engine began to be installed on BMW cars in 2011. The engine replaced the N53B25 and N53B30 units. The block of the new motor is made of aluminum alloy and contains two balance shafts. Steel-coated engine cylinders, forged crankshaft with four offset counterweights, 144.35mm long cranks.
A series of 2.0-liter BMW B48 gasoline engines has been produced by the company since 2014 and is installed on almost the entire modern model range of the German automaker. Two versions of the motor differ: B48A20 – for cars with front-wheel drives and B48B20 – with rear ones.
The 3.0-liter BMW N55B30 turbo engine was produced by the German concern from 2009 to 2018 and was installed on almost all major models of the company, including X-series crossovers. Alpina created several of its especially powerful power units based on this engine.
A series of 6-cylinder BMW B58B30 engines with a volume of 3.0 liters has been assembled in Munich since 2015 and put on charged modifications of rear- and all-wheel drive models of the German concern. There are two generations of such engines and the line of S58 sports units created on their basis.
BMW N47D20 diesel engines with a volume of 2.0 liters have been produced since 2007 and are installed on all compact and medium-sized models of the concern, including Mini cars. For some time, such diesel engines were installed on many Toyota compact vans and crossovers.
The BMW B47 2.0-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine series has been assembled since 2014 and is installed on cars with front-wheel drive as B47C20, rear-wheel drive as B47D20 and on Mini as B47C20A. These motors exist in two different generations and their updated versions are called B47TU1.
The 3.0-liter BMW N57 diesel engine has been assembled at the plant in Steyr since 2008 and is installed on almost all more or less large models of the German concern. The power unit has three modifications: with single, double or triple turbocharging.
A series of 6-cylinder BMW B57 diesel engines with a volume of 3.0 liters has been assembled since 2015 and is installed on the most popular rear and all-wheel drive models of the German concern. There are three modifications of these power units: with one, two or four turbines.
