The 1.6-liter Toyota 2T engine was produced from 1970 to 1984 and powered the Corolla, Carina, Celica and Corona of that era. Besides the basic pushrod 2T, there was the famous twin-cam 2T-G, which was the sporty heart of the Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno until the 4A-GE arrived.

All versions share a cast-iron block with a bore of 85 mm and a stroke of 70 mm. The 2T-G has an 8-valve DOHC head cast by Yamaha, a chain-driven camshaft drive and twin Mikuni-Solex carburetors; the 2T-GEU used fuel injection. Output ranges from 75 hp for the 2T to 125 hp for the 2T-G.
