EA839 or Audi V6 TFSI engines

The Audi EA839 family of 6-cylinder V-shaped turbo engines has been produced since 2016 and is installed on especially powerful versions of many popular models of the German concern. These engines are divided into two series: with a single turbine of 3.0 liters and a bi-turbo of 2.9 liters.

EA839 3.0 TFSI engines

In 2016, power units of the EA839 family came to replace the turbo engines of the EA837 series. The changes were evolutionary, here is the same aluminum cylinder block with cast-iron liners, four camshafts rotate by chains and are equipped with phase shifters, there is a proprietary Audi Valvelift System or AVS. The compressor has given way to a Twinscroll turbine, which is located in the collapse of the block.

The unit works on the so-called Miller cycle and uses FSI direct fuel injection. There are not so many modifications yet, but their number is growing, the line is in the expansion stage:

3.0 TFSI 24v (2995 cc, 84.5 x 89 mm), direct injection:

  • CZSE (340 hp / 500 Nm) for Audi A8 D5 (4N), Audi Q8 1 (4M);
  • DLZA (340 hp / 500 Nm) for Audi A6 C8 (4K), Audi A7 C8 (4K);
  • CWGD (354 hp / 500 Nm) for Audi S4 B9 (8W), Audi S5 2 (F5);
  • DCBD (340 hp / 500 Nm) for Audi Q7 2 (4M), Audi Q8 1 (4M);
  • DCBE (340 hp / 450 Nm) for VW Touareg 3 (CR);
  • DWVA (367 hp / 550 Nm) for Audi A6 C9 (4L), Audi S5 3 (FU);

EA839 2.9 TFSI engines

Simultaneously with the usual version of the turbo engine, a charged Biturbo modification appeared. The unit with a smaller piston stroke thanks to a pair of turbines develops up to 450 hp and 600 Nm.

Today the line includes both Audi engines and a whole number of versions for Porsche models, including hybrid ones:

2.9 TFSI 24v (2894 cc, 84.5 x 86 mm), direct injection:

  • DECA (450 hp / 600 Nm) for Audi RS4 B9 (8W), Audi RS5 2 (F5);
  • DECC (470 hp / 600 Nm) for Audi RS4 B9 (8W), Audi RS5 2 (F5);
  • DKMB (450 hp / 600 Nm) for Audi S6 C8 (4K), Audi S7 C8 (4K);
  • MCS.ZA (440 hp / 550 Nm) for Porsche Panamera 2 (971);
  • MCS.ZB (330 hp / 450 Nm) for Porsche Panamera 2 (971);
  • MCS.ZD (353 hp / 500 Nm) for Porsche Panamera 3 (976);
  • MDC.AB (440 hp / 550 Nm) for Porsche Cayenne 3 (9YA), Porsche Cayenne 3 Coupe (9YB);
  • MDG.RB (380 hp / 520 Nm) for Porsche Macan 1 (95B);
  • MDG.RC (440 hp / 550 Nm) for Porsche Macan 1 (95B);
  • MDG.PA (330 hp / 450 Nm) for Porsche Panamera 2 (971);
  • MDG.PC (440 hp / 450 Nm) for Porsche Panamera 2 (971);
  • MDG.PD (353 hp / 500 Nm) for Porsche Panamera 3 (976);
  • MDG.PE (304 hp / 450 Nm) for Porsche Panamera 3 (976).

Engine Volkswagen DCBE

The 3.0-liter turbo V6 Volkswagen DCBE has been produced since 2018 and is installed on the Volkswagen Touareg. This EA839 engine has direct injection and produces 340 hp and 450 Nm. In the Touareg eHybrid the system output reaches 381-462 hp.

Engine Audi DECC

The 2.9-liter turbo V6 Audi DECC was produced only in 2024 and was installed on the Audi RS4 and Audi RS5. This EA839 engine has direct injection and produces 470 hp and 600 Nm.

Engine Audi DCBD

The 3.0-liter turbo V6 Audi DCBD has been produced since 2018 and is installed on the Audi Q7 and Audi Q8. This EA839 engine has direct injection and produces 340 hp and 500 Nm. In plug-in hybrid versions the system output reaches 381-462 hp.

Engine Audi DWVA

The 3.0-liter turbo V6 Audi DWVA has been produced since 2024 and is installed on the Audi A6, Audi S5, Audi SQ5 and Audi SQ5 Sportback. This EA839 engine has direct injection and produces 367 hp and 550 Nm. It works with a mild hybrid system.

Engine Audi CZSE

The 3.0-liter turbocharged Audi CZSE 3.0 TFSI engine has been produced by the concern since 2017 and is installed only on the main modifications of the A8 sedan in the back of the D5 or the Q8 crossover. This motor is part of a hybrid power plant with a separate 48-volt network.

Engine Audi DLZA

The 3.0-liter Audi DLZA 3.0 TFSI engine has been assembled at the German company’s plant since 2018 and installed on the concern’s most massive mid-size models: the A6 and A7 in the C8 body. This unit is part of a hybrid installation with a separate 48-volt network.

Engine Audi CWGD

The 3.0-liter Audi CWGD 3.0 TFSI turbo engine has been assembled at the concern’s factories since 2016 and is put on charged modifications of such popular models as the A4 B9, A5 F5 or Q5 FY. This power unit is the most powerful in its lineup and develops 354 hp and 500 Nm.

Engine Audi DECA

The 2.9-liter Audi DECA bi-turbo engine has been assembled by the German concern since 2017 and is installed only on the current generation of such charged models as the RS4 or RS5. A similar turbo engine is installed on the Audi S6 and S7 as DKMB or Porsche cars as MDC.AB.
