EA855 or VW R5 engines
The Volkswagen EA855 5-cylinder engine series was first introduced in 2005. The units are designed for cars with a transverse engine and were installed in the US market. The second and subsequent generations of these engines were turbocharged and are known as 2.5 TFSI.
Atmospheric engines EA855
In 2005, the heir to the Audi EA828 series of inline 5-cylinder engines finally appeared, it turned out to be a family of naturally aspirated engines for cars sold in the US market. These were ordinary engines with a cast-iron block, a timing chain and a phase regulator only on the intake shaft.
In total, there were two versions of the motor, with a power of 150 and 170 hp, but a whole bunch of modifications:
- BGP (20v, distributed injection, 150 hp / 228 Nm);
- BGQ (20v, distributed injection, 150 hp / 228 Nm);
- BPR (20v, distributed injection, 150 hp / 228 Nm);
- BPS (20v, distributed injection, 150 hp / 228 Nm);
- BTK (20v, distributed injection, 150 hp / 228 Nm);
- CBTA (20v, distributed injection, 170 hp / 240 Nm);
- CBUA (20v, distributed injection, 170 hp / 240 Nm);
- CCCA (20v, distributed injection, 170 hp / 240 Nm).
EA855 2.5 TFSI engines
These engines really opened up in 2009 after being equipped with FSI injection and a turbine, so the 2.5 TFSI family, which is very popular among fans of charged models, appeared. The problematic timing chain drive was modernized, and a phase regulator appeared on the exhaust shaft.
- CEPA (20v, direct injection, 340 hp / 450 Nm);
- CEPB (20v, direct injection, 360 hp / 465 Nm);
- CTSA (20v, direct injection, 310 hp / 420 Nm);
- CZGA (20v, direct injection, 340 hp / 450 Nm);
- CZGB (20v, direct injection, 367 hp / 465 Nm).
Engines EA855 EVO 2.5 TFSI
In 2016, the 2.5 TFSI powertrains were significantly redesigned to reduce weight. The cast-iron block was replaced with aluminum and a lightweight connecting rod and piston group appeared. The intake camshaft was equipped with the Audi Valvelift System or AVS valve control system.
At the moment, there are two modifications of such a unit, with and without a particulate filter:
- DNWA (20v, direct injection, 400 hp / 480 Nm);
- DAZA (20v, direct injection, 400 hp / 480 Nm).
The 2.5-liter 5-cylinder turbo engine Audi DAZA has been produced by the company since 2017 and is installed on a number of charged models such as the RS3 hatchback, TT RS coupe and RS Q3 crossover. A modification of this power unit with a particulate filter has its own DNWA index.
The 2.5-liter 5-cylinder turbo engine Audi DNWA has been produced by the concern since 2018 and is installed on such charged models as the RS3 hatchback, TT RS coupe and RS Q3 crossover. The modern Audi RS3 is equipped with a unit designated DNWC with a capacity of 400 hp and 500 Nm.
The 2.5-liter Volkswagen BGP injection engine was produced from 2005 to 2010 and was installed on such popular concern models as the Golf or Jetta for the US market. There were several analogues of this motor at once under other indices BGQ, BPR and BPS.
The 2.5-liter Volkswagen CBTA gasoline engine was produced from 2008 to 2014 and was installed on the popular Golf, Jetta, Beetle, Passat models for the American market. This power unit had several analogues with completely different CBUA and CCCA indices.
The 2.5-liter Audi CEPA 2.5 TFSI turbo engine was produced by the concern from 2009 to 2014 and was installed on a charged modification of the TT RS model in the 8J body, and also the RS3 in the 8P body. There is a version of this power unit with a capacity of 360 hp …
