Engine GM LM7

The GM LM7 or Vortec 5300 5.3-liter V8 engine was produced by the concern from 1999 to 2007 and was installed on SUVs and pickup trucks based on the GMT800 platform, such as Tahoe, Yukon and Silverado. There is a Flexible-fuel modification of this power unit under its own index L59.

Vortec line: LR4, LM7, LY2, LY5, LFA, L92, L86.

Disadvantages of the GM LM7 engine

  • Many engine problems from overheating, monitor the condition of the radiator and pump;
  • When overheated, plastic pipes and tees crack, and then leaks appear;
  • Wrong choice of oil turns into quick wear of the camshaft liners;
  • The weak points of this engine also include the fuel pump, adsorber and ignition coils.
