The YaMZ-536 engine is a diesel 6-cylinder 4-stroke engine. The working volume is 6.65 liters. It has a rear gear drive of the units, a liquid cooling system, turbocharging and charge air cooling in an air-to-air heat exchanger installed on the vehicle.
YAMZ-536 is a basic 6-cylinder model of the in-line YMZ-530 family. Engines of this family comply with the special technical regulations on hazardous emissions “On the requirements for emissions of hazardous (polluting) substances by motor vehicles produced in circulation on the territory of the Russian Federation”, ecological class Euro-4. To achieve the Euro-4 level, an EGR system (exhaust gas recirculation) and a catalytic converter with a replaceable filter are used.

Engine design features
The body is machined from castings. The cylinder block of the power unit is cast from gray cast iron. The cylinder liners are pressed into a rigid power belt of the water jacket finning. The cylinder head block is bolted with permanent tightening torque. The cooling system is liquid, it combines the flow cavities of the head and the cylinder block.
One-piece forged steel crankshaft. The seats of the connecting rod and main journals are hardened by HFC hardening. The main bearings are lubricated through the holes in the crankshaft journals.
A cast iron flywheel is attached to the rear end of the crankshaft and is equipped with a gear ring for starting the engine with a starter. The torsional vibration damper is a liquid damper designed to damp excess vibration. Vibration and noise levels have been brought up to European standards.
