The 1.6-liter Mitsubishi 4G61 gasoline engine was assembled by the concern from 1987 to 1995 and, in addition to its own models, such as Lancer or Colt, was installed on Hyundai and Dodge cars. This power unit is the only one in its family that does not have balance shafts.
The 4G6 family also includes engines: 4G62, 4G63, 4G63T, 4G64, 4G67 and 4G69.
The engine was installed on:
- Mitsubishi Colt C50 in 1987 – 1992;
- Mitsubishi Lancer CA in 1987 – 1992;
- Hyundai Lantra 1 (J1) in 1991 – 1995;
- Dodge Colt in 1988 – 1992.

Disadvantages of the Mitsubishi 4G61 engine
- Since there are no balance shafts, the main problem of the series does not threaten these engines;
- Due to poor oil, hydraulic lifters quickly fail and begin to knock;
- Dirty idle control or throttle are the main causes of idle speed;
- The timing belt may not pass the 90,000 km assigned to it, and when it breaks, the valves bend;
- The pillows of the power unit serve here for a very short time, for some reason especially the left.
