EA825 or Audi V8 bi-turbo engines
The Audi-Porsche EA825 family of V8 bi-turbo engines has been produced in Stuttgart since 2016 and is installed only on the most powerful and advanced modifications of VW models. These engines are best known for the charged versions of Audi, Porsche, Bentley and Lamborghini.
Design of motors of the EA825 family
In 2016, engineers from Porsche, based on 4.0-liter bi-turbo engines of the EA824 series, developed a new line of V8 power units, their production was launched at the plant in Stuttgart. In its design, this is a typical V-shaped 8-cylinder engine with a camber angle of 90°, an aluminum block with plasma spraying on the cylinder walls, a timing chain drive, a pair of aluminum DOHC cylinder heads with hydraulic compensators, a direct injection system, phase regulators on all shafts, a dual turbocharging in the camber of the cylinder block.
Among the features, it is worth noting the system for changing the degree of opening of the intake valves AVS, with the help of which some of the cylinders are also switched off at low loads.
Modifications of EA825 engines
I know of nine versions of Audi engines, eight Porsches, one Bentley and one Lamborghini:
- CXYA (460 hp / 660 Nm) for Audi A8 D5 (4N);
- CWWB (571 hp / 800 Nm) for Audi S8 D5 (4N);
- DCUE (507 hp / 770 Nm) for Audi SQ7 2 (4M), SQ8 1 (4M);
- DWRB (507 hp / 770 Nm) for Audi SQ7 2 (4M), SQ8 1 (4M);
- DHUB (600 hp / 800 Nm) for Audi RS Q8 1 (4M);
- DJPB (600 hp / 800 Nm) for Audi RS6 C8 (4K), RS7 C8 (4K);
- DWLA (600 hp / 800 Nm) for Audi RS6 C8 (4K), RS7 C8 (4K);

- MDT.CA (630 hp / 820 Nm) for Porsche Panamera 2 (971);
- MDW.NA (640 hp / 850 Nm) for Porsche Cayenne 3 Coupe (9YB).
¹ – based on the MCV.DA engine, there are hybrid versions with 680 hp / 850 Nm and 700 hp / 870 Nm.
² – based on the MDC.UA engine, there are hybrid versions with 680 hp / 900 Nm and 739 hp / 950 Nm.
The 4.0-liter bi-turbo engine Audi DCUE was produced by the German concern from 2020 to 2022 and was installed on the SQ7 and SQ8 crossovers until it gave way to the new DWRB unit. A more powerful modification of this engine for the Audi RS Q8 has its own DHUB index.
The 4.0-liter 8-cylinder bi-turbo engine Audi CXYA has been produced by the company since 2020 and is installed on the A8 D5 executive sedan, popular in a number of countries, in the 60 TFSI modification. A more powerful version of this power unit for the Audi S8 has its own CWWB index.
