EA330 or Audi V6 2.5 TDI engines

The V6 series of Audi EA330 2.5 TDI diesel engines was assembled by the company from 1997 to 2005 and installed on many of the concern’s models with a longitudinal arrangement of the power unit. These diesel engines are conditionally divided into two lines, popularly called the A-series and B-series.

Diesel engines EA330 A-series

For the first time, V-shaped 6-cylinder 2.5 TDI diesel engines appeared in 1997 on the Audi A8 model. These were engines with a cast-iron cylinder block, two aluminum cylinder heads and a timing belt. The popular Bosch VP44 injection pump was responsible for the direct injection of diesel fuel.

Each cylinder head had two camshafts, which controlled 24 valves in total, and the presence of hydraulic lifters made it possible to avoid the frequent procedure for adjusting their clearance.

The first line of power units included four diesel engines of different power:

  • AFB (150 hp / 310 Nm);
  • AKE (180 hp / 370 Nm);
  • AKN (150 hp / 310 Nm);
  • AYM (155 hp / 310 Nm).

Diesel engines EA330 B-series

Already in 2003, an updated series of 2.5 TDI diesel power units was introduced. First of all, the problematic gas distribution mechanism of the motor underwent modernization: the camshaft cam now pressed on the roller bearing, which increased the life of the rockers.

The engine with the BFC index, which was produced from 2002 to 2003, does not, in fact, belong to the B-series, since it has an old-style gas distribution mechanism. Plus, it’s very rare.

These engines were installed on numerous models of Audi, Volkswagen, Skoda until 2005:

  • BAU (180 hp / 370 Nm);
  • BCZ (163 hp / 310 Nm);
  • BDG (163 hp / 350 Nm);
  • BDH (180 hp / 370 Nm);
  • BFC (163 hp / 310 Nm).
