In 1994, the 3VZ engine was replaced by the new 1MZ engine. This engine was produced until 2007, until it was gradually replaced by the new 3MZ-FE engine. 1MZ was a V-shaped six-cylinder power plant with an aluminum alloy block and cylinder head. Each cylinder head was fitted with 2 camshafts, which were made of steel.

— official information
- Increased oil consumption. The motors of this series are already quite old. This is the root cause of the problem. Therefore, it is necessary to change the oil scraper rings and caps.
- The motor has lost power, turns badly and freaks out in different ways. Knock detectors need to be checked and replaced if necessary.
- Swimming revs. The throttle valve module needs to be cleaned. In addition, the nozzles and the VVTi valve may be dirty. Due to a malfunction of the latter, the unit may triple, be subject to vibrations and twitching and other similar manifestations.
The Toyota 1MZ engine is often clogged with resins, a leak appears in the VVTi clutch, and a diesel effect is formed. The clutch should be replaced. Officially, the unit is not suitable for repair, so it can only be replaced with a contract analogue. Block boring can only be done by third-party car services. With good maintenance, its durability can exceed three hundred thousand kilometers without any problems in operation.
