Toyota GR series engines are V6 gasoline engines manufactured by Toyota. The GR series engines consist of a die-cast aluminum engine block with an aluminum cylinder head with two camshafts. Structurally, the angle between the pistons is 60 degrees. Injection engine with 4 valves per cylinder, forged connecting rods, one-piece cast camshaft and cast aluminum intake manifold. The GR series engines replaced engines such as the MZ V6 and JZ inline 6, as well as the V6 VZ used on light trucks.

Frequent problems

Engine Toyota 1GRUnits that came out before restyling, equipped with a single VVTi, are characterized by resistance to oil leakage through the oil line. However, there is another, no less serious drawback. With high mileage, the engine often overheats, which leads to wear of the gaskets on the cylinder head. Therefore, it is extremely important to control the cooling system.

Chirping during operation is present on almost all modifications of the unit. This is normal injector background noise. A similar sound in the form of a clatter is observed from the functioning of the ventilation system of gasoline fumes.

On the Toyota 1GR engine, there are no hydraulic lifters in the design. For this reason, every one hundred thousand kilometers you need to readjust the valve clearances using shims. In practice, as a rule, no one is fond of this. Therefore, problems associated with this are not excluded.

With good and regular maintenance, the engine can run for 300 thousand km or more. The main disadvantages are similar to the 2GR version of the unit.
