Engine Toyota 1AR

The 1AR engine began to be produced in 2008 for the North American market and for a long time they did not try to export it to other countries. First of all, the Toyota 1AR engine replaced the 2AZ-FE, and secondly, it filled the gap in the engine line for the original front-wheel drive models between 160-horsepower 2.4 and 280-horsepower 3.5. The engine was first installed on the Toyota Venza, then it was installed on other Toyota and Lexus models.

Frequent problems

The Toyota 1AR engine is quite reliable and durable. Its service life with high-quality and regular maintenance can exceed 300 thousand km. However, no matter how perfect it is, it also has some disadvantages:

  1. Extraneous sound from the clutch on VVTi. The problem is solved by replacing the part.
  2. Leaking pump. Periodic replacement of this element is required.
  3. Disposable motor. If the cylinder block is skewed, the engine will have to be changed completely.

The use of high-quality oil, good gasoline and timely maintenance helps to extend the life of the engine.
