Engine Opel A14NET/NEL

1.4-liter Opel A14NET or LUJ engine has been assembled since 2009 at the Wien-Aspern plant and is installed in a number of popular models of the company, such as Astra, Meriva, Mokka and Zafira. Now such units are gradually being replaced by modern Euro 6 engines of the new B-series.

The A10 line includes: A12XER, A14XER, A16XER, A16LET, A16XHT and A18XER.

The Opel 1.4 engine is the result of a new approach to civilian engine building. Small displacement engine with low pressure turbocharging (only 0.5 bar in the A14NET version). This ensures high fuel efficiency (reduces fuel consumption and increases engine power). Timing chain drive, hydraulic lifters are installed. There is a phase change system on both camshafts.

The engine was installed on:

  • Opel Astra J (P10) in 2009 – 2015;
  • Opel Corsa D (S07) in 2010 – 2014;
  • Opel Insignia A (G09) in 2011 – 2017;
  • Opel Meriva B (S10) in 2010 – 2017;
  • Opel Mokka A (J13) since 2012;
  • Opel Zafira C (P12) since 2011.

Disadvantages of the A14NET engine

  • Motors in this series are notorious for noise, clicking and whistling in operation, but this is normal;
  • In second place are oil leaks from under the valve cover or crankshaft oil seal;
  • A sophisticated crankcase ventilation system delivers many problems to the owner;
  • The pump has a small resource here, and the turbine can give up already at 100,000 km;
  • The first years of production regularly encountered destruction of pistons at low mileage.
